Since tying the knot on the beach in the Bahamas in 2008, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have renewed their vows every year — and with an especially tough year behind him, Nick promises another lavish ceremony on April 30. “It’s gonna be big,” Nick tells the new issue of Life & Style about saying “I do” to Mariah for the fifth time.

It will be even bigger because April 30 also marks the first birthday of Nick and Mariah’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan. “So it’s a family day,” Nick shares with Life & Style. “We’ll celebrate with them during the day and just the two of us at night.”

Diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus nephritis, Nick is focusing on celebrating life with his family this year. “It goes to show you how much things can change,” he confided on March 22 at the Badoo.com launch party in NYC. “In tough times, you lean on family.”

Even at his sickest, Nick never lost faith in his relationship with his wife, Mariah, admitting that marrying her was the best thing to ever happen to him. “We get married every year; it’s our thing,” Nick tells Life & Style. “I just have to keep doing it to make sure it’s real!”

Nick Cannon Amazed By Mariah Marriage

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey will again renew their wedding vows next month and the ‘America’s Got Talent’ host jokingly claims they do so in order to prove to himself that their union is ”real”.

Nick Cannon still can’t believe his marriage to Mariah Carey is ”real”.

The ‘America’s Got Talent’ host married the singer on the beach outside her home in the Bahamas on April 30 2008 and they have renewed their vows every year since, and Nick admits the ceremony helps him appreciate their union more.

He said: ”We get married every year; it’s our thing. I just have to keep doing it to make sure it’s real!”

This year, the couple are planning an even bigger celebration because their twins Moroccan Scott and Monroe turn one on the same day, so the babies will be involved in the festivities, though Mariah and Nick are also setting aside quality time for one another.

Nick told Life & Style magazine: ”It’s gonna be big. So it’s a family day.

”We’ll celebrate with them during the day and just the two of us at night.”

Nick has suffered a string of health problems this year and following his recent diagnosis of having the autoimmune disease lupus nephritis, he is particularly thankful for his family.

He said: ”It goes to show you how much things can change. In tough times, you lean on family.”

Ten Incredible Mariah Carey Performances

As the R&B diva celebrates her 42nd birthday, watch her sing ‘Honey,’ ‘Vision of Love’ and more.

Mariah Carey is one of the most gifted and influential R&B singers of her generation. Though she’s best known for her multi-octave range and full-blast style, she is actually a versatile performer with total command over her incredible voice. Click through to watch some of Carey’s finest performances, from the early days of her career up to the recent past.

‘Vision of Love’

Carey rocketed to fame with “Vision of Love,” the first single from her debut album, in 1990. Looking back on this clip from her first appearance on Saturday Night Live, it’s easy to see why she was basically an overnight success – she sings the tune with serene confidence, as if she’s already been a star for years.

‘Can’t Let Go’

Carey’s performance of the ballad “Can’t Let Go” on this episode of Soul Train from 1991 is so flawless that many viewers probably assumed she was lip-synching. Check out the back-up singers as she gets started – you can sense their fear of messing up in the presence of a singer of her caliber.

‘Emotions’

By the time Carey took the stage at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards, she had risen to the ranks of one of the best-selling musicians in the business. That swagger comes through in her performance of “Emotions,” one of her most jubilant early hits.

‘I’ll Be There’

Carey is arguably one of the few singers to top a vocal performance by Michael Jackson. Her rendition of the Jackson 5 ballad “I’ll Be There” from her MTV Unplugged special is smooth, elegant and big-hearted.

‘Dreamlover’

Carey’s upbeat tunes in the early Nineties were an ideal showcase for a bright, optimistic quality in her voice. Though she can belt the hell out of a ballad, her voice resonates more deeply when she’s conveying giddy infatuation, as in this rendition of “Dreamlover” from the Arsenio Hall Show in 1993.

‘Fantasy’

Carey was an arena-packing star by the mid-Nineties. In this clip from her 1996 Daydream World Tour, the singer delivers an impeccable vocal performance while serving as the center of an elaborate production featuring dancers and an enormous stage.

‘Honey’

“Honey” marks the start of a new direction for Carey, with the singer wholeheartedly embracing the luxurious sound of late-Nineties mainstream hip-hop and moving away from vocal bombast. She’s still showing off her incredible range but producing a lighter, softer sound.

‘Heartbreaker’

Carey successfully integrated hip-hop into her music by the late Nineties. In this performance of “Heartbreaker” at the European Music Awards in 1999, the singer effortlessly stays at the center of the song despite guest turns by the highly charismatic Missy Elliott and Da Brat.

‘We Belong Together’

Carey’s career flagged through much of the early 2000s, but she made her big comeback with “We Belong Together,” a killer single that showcased a new variation on her hip-hop-inflected R&B phrasing. This performance from Late Night with David Letterman starts off fairly mellow but climaxes with a mind-blowing sustained high note.

‘Touch My Body’

The Mariah Carey in this performance of “Touch My Body” on German television in 2008 is a world away from the woman who broke into pop culture in the early Nineties. Whereas she was once demure and sang like a gospel powerhouse, the modern Mariah is slick and chill. Of course, the smoothness is spiked with a bit of aggression, as she sings in this song “I will hunt you down” with a sly wink.

Happy Birthday, Mariah Carey, Chart Icon

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

As Carey celebrates her 42nd birthday, here’s a look back at some of her most impressive chart achievements.

As Mariah Carey celebrates her 42nd birthday today, we’ve got the perfect present.

Here’s a look back at the most notable chart records that Carey has set since she first graced a Billboard survey the week of June 2, 1990, when “Vision of Love” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

(We’d have gotten her a card, but it would’ve been too tough to list all her accomplishments on one).

With 18 Hot 100 leaders, Carey has totaled the most No. 1s by a female artist. Among all acts, she trails only the Beatles (20) for the most No. 1 songs in the chart’s 53-year history.

Here is a listing of Carey’s Hot 100 toppers:
* 1990, “Vision of Love” (four weeks at No. 1)
* 1990, “Love Takes Time” (three)
* 1991, “Someday” (two)
* 1991, “I Don’t Wanna Cry” (two)
* 1991, “Emotions” (three)
* 1992, “I’ll Be There” (two)
* 1993, “Dreamlover” (eight)
* 1993, “Hero” (four)
* 1995, “Fantasy” (eight)
* 1995, “One Sweet Day,” with Boyz II Men (16)
* 1996, “Always Be My Baby” (two)
* 1997, “Honey” (three)
* 1998, “My All” (one)
* 1999, “Heartbreaker,” featuring Jay-Z (two)
* 2000, “Thank God I Found You,” featuring Joe & 98 Degrees (one)
* 2005, “We Belong Together” (14)
* 2005, “Don’t Forget About Us” (two)
* 2008, “Touch My Body” (two)

Carey remains the only artist to send her first five Hot 100 entries to No. 1. She bested the mark of four consecutive career-opening leaders set by the Jackson 5 in 1970. The group’s fourth No. 1, “I’ll Be There,” became Carey’s sixth 22 years later.

Carey and the quintet were linked from the start: their second No. 1, “ABC,” vaulted 14-6 on the Hot 100 the week after her birth.

With 16 weeks at No. 1, “One Sweet Day” holds the record for most weeks spent atop the Hot 100. Carey also ties for second-place with 14 weeks on top for “We Belong Together.” (Boyz II Men, co-credited on “Day,” boast a 14-week No. 1 of their own, 1994′s “I’ll Make Love to You”.)

Carey has spent a record 79 weeks total atop the Hot 100. The Beatles are second with 59 cumulative frames in charge.

Considering the lengthy dominations of “Day” and “Together,” it’s not surprising that Carey claimed the top song of the ’90s and ’00s, respectively, when Billboard compiled the top titles of each decade.

Carey additionally earned the esteemed honor as Billboard’s top artist of the ’90s.

The superstar ranks as the best-selling female album artist dating to the advent of Nielsen SoundScan data in 1991. At 53.7 million, she trails only Garth Brooks (68.6 million) and the Beatles (63.5) among all artists.

Among women, Carey places ahead of Celine Dion (51.6), Shania Twain (34.1), Britney Spears (32.5) and Reba McEntire (30).

Carey is an artist for all seasons, as her 1994 carol “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is the most-downloaded holiday song, according to SoundScan. The song has sold 2.1 million downloads. No other seasonal track has passed even 1 million in digital sales.
