Angels Advocate cancelled/new Mariah christmas album?

Mon, Mar 22, 2010

Ireland & UK News

Mariah Carey’s new LP has been cancelled, according to reports.

Carey’s 13th studio album and second remix album, titled Angels Advocate, was originally slated for a UK release on April 26.

A statement on Mariah Journal said: “[We are] able to confirm that the Angels Advocate album, a Remixed edition of Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel will not be released.

“According to Mariah’s management, the album will not be put out in the regular album fashion but they are working on releasing some singles off the album. ‘It won’t go to waste,’ we were assured.”

The website reports that Carey’s management team are considering recording a Christmas album.

“We are looking to go possibly to another studio album or Christmas album. The decision hasn’t been totally made yet. It’s a creative process that cannot be rushed,” they are quoted as saying.

Carey’s last Christmas album, Merry Christmas, was released in 1994, and spawned the number two hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.

Since the inclusion of downloads in the UK singles chart from 2007, the song has re-charted within the Top 20 each year.

    still keeping my fingers crossed…
    i want the remix album!!

  2. S Says:

A Christmas album would be a terrible idea, they’d once again be going down the failing path of trying to recreate past glory. It would just come out sounding like a cheap version of the original one. What they need to focus on is making a new studio album with a completely fresh sound and image, the way they did with TEOM, but without trying to recreate TEOM or WBT or any of her past hits but instead create new classics. She needs to become the smart business woman she used to be pre-Nick.

  3. liz Says:

yay! they are still gonna release some singles so i guess its gonna be like a mixtape….im excited they are thinkin about making a new album(hopefully not a xmas album) i hope they take their time, maybe a yr or 2…have a new sound, BETTER VIDEOS, different producers and co writers. New image, and promo the hell out of it. she needs to regain her throne n be on top once again!

  4. A.L.T. Says:

so they are cancelling an “album” 1 week before it’s release? No promo for the “TWO” current singles (yes, there are two songs out for those of us that have completely forgotten) … and now either ‘another’ Christmas album (that will clearly never top the last one) or another completely new album (flop album regurgitation) …

Dear everyone on this site…. Good bye to you all for now. I think its time for me to just enjoy my MC youtube moments or listening to her on my iPOD. It just doesn’t make sense to follow her music career on a daily basis in 2010 when there’s nothing to it ….

  5. C Says:

I really don’t believe that a new album is the answer. Seriously, if things are problematic at the label as being reported, releasing a new album for them to screw up is going to do Mariah no favours, regardless of how hard she works in the studio.

It’s no secret that label support hasn’t been forthcoming since 2008 and there is nothing which is suggesting that a new album would be treated any differently. Why would they suddenly start working hard on promo for a new album but not for Memoirs or E=MC2 before it?

Maybe a career/family break, maybe change labels, new producers, garner new experiences…IDK…give the public chance to miss her then come back with a fresh image, stunningly crafted songs and create the buzz that she had in 2005.

Memoirs was truly the most slept on album in 2009 and it would be criminal if a new album went the same way.

  6. Bob Smith Says:

It seems like MC and IDJ are all over the place lately: not one, but two (?) remix albums of a “failed” album (besides lambs, who would want to buy remixes of an album that many people haven’t heard or liked); now they want another studio album or a xmas album? It’s like they know they have an extremely marketable artist and they’re trying to find a way to leverage as recent attempts have failed. Yet she keeps talking about acting and everyone hints on a baby. If she wants to make a baby, 40 is a good age to start a family so go have a kid, come back in a few years with enriched experiences that would make her write all kinds of songs, and then market yourself again as “I am back”.

Whatever the case is, she needs to update her sound, image, looks.

  7. Twister Says:

I’m really dissapointed by this. At the moment i think Marah is being promoted enough what with all the T4 specials and video premiers. The problem is her videos aren’t shown enough on music channels in comparison to ‘newer’ stars. Memoirs is a fantastic album but doesn’t reach out to non-Marah fans or mainstream radio. Mimi was a hugh success cos of it’s originaly. I agree that a christmas album is uncessary and a remix album would be good for the fans but thats it. I think Mariah needs to comeback with a bang and show the rhiannas etc. of the world who has still got it!

  8. Ben Says:

I hope this new album will not be for this or next year, i think Mariah should re-invent herself (in more than one way) and take time to do that. And if one of those singles mentioned will be an unexpected major hit (maybe It’s A Wrap with Mary?) i think this album will be released as a bonus disk for a new release of Memoirs. It would be nice to see Memoirs gaining interest again but i fear that’s just wishful thinking. A good idea, already mentioned before, may be Mariah doing an album with Simon Cowell coproducing it. As Simon said: Mariah should do ballads like she used to. I hope she will abandon making songs like TMB, I’m That Chick, Obsessed or UOMF witch are nice songs but not for Mariah, in the end these are not the kind of songs that make people buy her albums.

  9. Mark.S Says:

I’VE STILL NOT FULLY UNDERSTOOD WHY MEMOIRS HASN’T SOLD 10 MILLION.
ITS BETTER THAN E=MC2 AND MARGINALLY EDGES OUT TEOM, ITS STUNNING.
YES MUSIC HAS CHANGED HUGLEY THIS YEAR, WITH ELECTRONIC POP TAKING OVER. BUT THIS IS A CLASSIC R’N'B COLLECTION. WAS IT OBSESSED BEING RELEASED AS THE 1ST SINGLE, WAS IT IWTKWLI BEING RELEASED IN AMERCIA, WAS IT LACK OF PROMO, WAS IT THAT PEOPLE HAVN’T HEARD RIBBON/BGK/ITS A WRAP/INSEPERABLE… ITS A REAL MYSTERY.
BUT I REALLY WANTED THIS REMIX COLLECTION TO BE A MEMOIRS REPACKAGE, AND TO BE RELEASED, I WAS LOOKING FORWARD. BUT PLEASE, DO NOT RELEASE AN ALBUM UNTIL AFTER SEPTEMBER 2011, LET THE PEOPLE MISS YOU AND HAVE PEOPLE WANT YOU BACK.

  10. Bob Smith Says:

    Ben,

TMC and Obsessed were her only successful singles within the last few years; why should she stop making them? Yes, us lambs prefer ballads because she’s our vocalist but besides lambs, in US at least, no one is interested in ballads – do you hear a ballad on the radio lately? They tried with IWTKWLI, which I think was epic and classic Mariah ballad, and look where it went?

I completely disagree and I think she needs to continue doing more upbeat music. Her voice is well suited for it, and unfortunately if she wants to sell records she needs to be in-tune with what’s popular right now. What I will agree with is that she needs to ditch this mid-tempo ballad stuff and do straightforward ballads with less production and more vocals. I’d love to see another album like EMC2 (however ONLY if promoted properly) in terms of upbeat songs (all very different and somewhat experimental) HOWEVER instead of WBT clone ballads I’d want some real ballads.

  11. Dubai Says:

I’m still hoping that AA will be released with MOAIA as De Luxe Edition. It will at least help Memoirs sells more and have a decent sales. After that Mariah should leave the limelight for a while to have a baby. Wait until the baby turns 2 years old and come back with a slimmer figure, more serious but still lovable persona, and and an album that’s filled with mature songs with another label. After all she really deserves a break after 20 years of ups and downs and dedicating most of those years to her fans whon she considers her extended family.

Shelving this project would I think damage her reputation. (Or is this another way of IDJ screwing her?)Releasing it with MOAIA is a better idea IMO. I’m sure there are still a lot of people will buy it.

  12. Jeff Says:

Good Its Not being released! Sorry but this whole project was going nowhere, Both IDJ and Mariah gave up on the Project.

All the Pushbacks and the bad single choices since as well as the Lack of promo was a disaster in the Making!

Mariah should Take time off and comeback in 2013 or late 2012 and raise a family because is all looking like Deja Vu (we all seen this before).
She should find new inspiration and try a new sound and come back like she did with TEOM, the public needs to miss her, its not the 90s anymore where mariah release album after album and they were hits!

A New album or new Christmas album is a bad idea. You cannot recreate an iconic album that till this day is still selling! Is Like trying to re-create WBT, its not gonna work! I hope Mariah takes a break and starts a family, shes beggining to become a Workaholic again.

  13. Jeff Says:

    @ Dubai.

Ruin Her reputation? I rather the album be shelved then released, if MOAIA was a flop imagine this? Is sad that an icon like MC goes from selling millions of albums to selling barely 500,000 and going Gold.

    A Break is Much needed.

  14. Eric LALAMB Says:

Do the R&B if you want. POP is what is HOT!!!!! Heartbreaker, Fantasy type beats. Even the electro/dance sound can be hot. An album can be eclectic with all kinds of sounds, very versatile. But the singles can be SMASH HIT GROOVE WONDERS if the melodies are catchy and the sound is current. Mariah delivers to the fans. A new Christmas album would be a gift to the fans. Not to please all of America or the world. That Christmas album has several singles on the radio EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Yes…..let’s promo like crazy this new album but make the single choices guaranteed SMASH HITS! Her last two albums had potential #1 hits on them. But…..ya know…..

  15. Ben Says:

I hope Mariah is pregnant: the best acceptable excuse not to be able to release/promote a new album and a good reason for a break. Also the press will immediately forget about low sales and other negative items as soon as the news of a pregnancy comes out.

  16. Dubai Says:

    @ Jeff,

Shelving a project that’s already completed has some bad connotation in it specially for a superstar like Mariah. So IMO it’s better to release it with MOAIA after all its not actually an all new album. They are songs from Memoirs that are retooled or remixed so its actually appropriate to have it as a second CD for deluxe edition of Memoirs. Well that’s for me though.

  17. Dubai Says:

I’m still hoping that when its released with Memoirs it will increase the sales because Im sure there are still some people who are waiting to buy it. It’s impossible that not even a single person wont buy it. We never know right?

  18. obsessed fan Says:

MOAIA shld be re-released with an AA edition. But I guess they might not want to spend money printing the CDs etc. After all, a million copies of MOAIA were released in the US, which means that there are still like half a million not sold yet.

Argh. This is so frustrating. I am not looking forward to another album from her so soon. Find a new sound first, Mariah. Don’t keep revisiting your past. Take a step forward. Do more uptempo stuffs. I loved the beats on To The Floor, Migrate and I’m That Chick. Or do a ballad that’s not in the veins of WBT! Something like Mine Again which is really an old school R&B power ballad with a classic timeless allure to it. Angels Cry, I Stay In Love etc are all great songs, but they all sound a tad too similar to WBT. Or do something like When I Feel It! That’s a slick sound, still R&B but different.

  19. Supermariah Says:

Im still crossing my fingers that mariah will soon release a remix of this album.. I want to hear her collaboration w/ MJB..

Yes ,Lambs you’re right..music has changed and its very noticeable that the crowd nowadays loves techno/pop music ala LADY GAGA / Black eyed peas..

They dont care anymore if the music has an amazing lyrics or just plain crap..

I know someday the crowd will go back listening to some good material and not listen to what we call GARBAGE..

MARIAH’s bday is on Mar. 27, hopefully she’ll surprise everybody with an amazing ALBUM..

i love MOAIA..i love angels cry..and it deserves to have an award or something..

right now,Im going to watch mariah’s performances via my ITOUCH..releive the nostalgia!

  20. Juan_Antonio Says:

As a Mariah fan, I’ll be happy if she releases new music this year. If it’s a holiday album, I’ll be eager to hear her sing classics she didn’t cover on her 94 release, her duet with her mom, and surely new songs written by her. If it’s a studio album I’ll be anxiously waiting for info about producers, song titles, sound, etc.

  21. joe Says:

    Dubai,

I am starting to think you are seriously bonkers. You say the same thing over and over. Get over it! AA will NOT be release with Memoirs. Damn dude!

Mariah needs to reassess herself BIG time! She is starting to flatline like Celine.

  22. Marc Says:

The only way Mariah will stay relevant this decade is if she changes her sound yet remains Mariah and changes up her image. She should re-hire Marvet Britto and June Ambrose and confer again with Andre Leon Talley.

Mariah dropped the classy ensembles after TEOM died down I think because she though she could just revert back to her old fashion ways but the public scoffed. Bring back those classy get-ups!

  23. MCboo Says:

No one has congratulated Mariah on her latest film role alongside an Oscar and Tony winner. It’s all negativity. Congrats MC on being cast in Tyler Perry’s forthcoming film.

  24. Dubai Says:

thanks joe!!!?? you are such a kind person and a classy one. keep it up!

  25. Jim Says:

Where is it said that she is trying to recreate her christmas album. It’s something new, not a recreation. and come back with a slimmer figure, what the hell kind of comment is that? What the hell does that got to do with selling albums? One fricken complaint after another on here. Either you’re a fan and support her or go do your own damn thing and prove your worth.
