Up Out My Face was #2 again tonight on BET’s 106 & Park… common guys! Let’s make this a #1 video vote double as much tonight and tomorrow.

Send this video to #1, it deserves it!

  2. david Says:

can someone tell what’s the benefit of hitting the #1 spot on BET??

  3. Dubai Says:

    @ David.. EXPOSURE!

  4. mcfan Says:

Hitting #2 on BET gets just the same amount of exposure as being #1 so not much difference. It’s mostly a mental thing.

  5. Tobby Says:

Also, when they have the year end countdown, the songs that make it on are usually the most played videos aka videos that hit #1 on that countdown gets more plays….

so we see the video more often.

  6. Dubai Says:

UOMF rises up slightly to #41 at BB Hip/Hop RnB Songs this week from #43 last week.

  7. Dubai Says:

    It’s #68 at Itunes!

By the way Memoirs is #135 at BB Hot 100

  8. Jeff Says:

idk, but would i be a bad lamb if i just gave up?

I mean we all have been there, bye-bye, IBLUL, i stay in Love, IWKLI and HATE U, i download as many times, i vote and buy the videos, during e=mc2 I was went crazy and voted so many times and downloaded many many times and yet i feel like im being cheated here or sumting i not going right!

I really want Mariah to succeed and lough at the haters who jump with joy every time Mariah fails. But If this project is more of a big disaster as Memoirs was, im just gonna give up and let IDj and Mariah continue to make wither the wrong choices concerning, promo, radio release and ect.

  9. Jeff Says:

Sumtimes is not about the success or how much you sell, Mariah has gone from selling millions to selling barely 500,000 copies. The songs she has released 2008 and on, have been an embarrassment and joke towards her career, songs that do not represent Mariah in any way.

Im not trying to sound mean or anything but Mariah has not taken her career seriously since E=MC2, the fun records are ok, but go back to making music that we know she can make.

  10. adam Says:

WHERE is this song MV? It has lost its opportunity for 6 DAYS. Olympics is not held 365 days/year. When it’s gone, it’s GONE, Mimi.

  11. Tobby Says:

She did make a really good song to her calibur and it was called H.A.T.E. U. -but it looks like people don’t want serious emotional Mariah anymore.

Go back with Walter A. and try again!

  12. Tobby Says:

ACTUALLY, besides Obsessed, the only single to do well from this album is “I want to know what love is” (charted in the top 10 on the USA Adult Contemporary charts for over 8 weeks, #1 in Brazil, higest charting single in UK from the album)

That tells me people still want to hear classic singing Mariah Carey, it just seems like Mariah doesn’t want to do that anymore!

  13. Jeff Says:

    @ Tobby

well U are kind of right cuz Mariah only wants to make “Fun” Records.
Ok we get it but please go back to making mature music.

Mariah made matured records back in her 20′s than she does now at 39.

  14. brook Says:

    Jeff and Tobby,

I am sure you know that is because she says that she wasn’t able to make the music at 20 that he wanted which she is now doing at 39. I think it is pointless to opine for the days of yesteryear regarding her music, since “old” vs “new” MC has been dissected, re-dissected and dissected again for about 10 years now.

  15. Jeff Says:

@ Brook, Yeah i understand The whole “Tommy” Thing and her every moved being controlled back in her 20′s

but it wasnt like he gave her a book and said “here sing this, Or “Heres the person who’s gonna write all your songs”

No! Mariah wrote all those songs and if it wasnt her type of music then idk why she claims them to be her personal favorites and sings them till this day.

and also Butterfly was the record were she made the music she loved to make and u cannot compare butterfly to E=MC2 Or Memoirs!

  16. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

I still have faith that Mariah will rebound! That’s all. As of now Im just thanking her for the diverse music that she has made and shared to the world.

  17. obsessed fan Says:

In my humble opinion, Mariah’s love to dress up and play sexy gets on people’s nerves. My friends were impressed with It’s Like That and We Belong Together. But they started disliking her again as soon as Say Something was released because they felt that she was returning to “slutty” (sorry, not my choice of word though but my friends’) videos. I lashed out at them for being shallow – why should they let the video affect the music? If it’s good music why bother if the video is “slutty” or not? And I told them that many artistes are doing the sexy thingie anyway, so why should they be upset when it’s Mariah?

The replies I got were about how the videos affected her public image. WBT and ILT showed a classy side to her image – she was sensual but not “slutty”. But Say Something and then Touch My Body confirmed my friends’ assertion that the “slutty” image is back. And that is why they don’t even want to listen to her music. One of my friends even put it across crudely, “she likes to show off her boobs so much it is disgusting and degrading”. I was extremely upset and had a huge row back then. That same friend told me that Obsessed and H.A.T.E.U was exactly the same thing again – SLUTTY. Heedless to say, I gave up arguing with him.

All these encounters with other music lovers made me realize that Mariah is renowed for her vocals and wholesome image. Yes, she can be sexy but she has to make sure it doesn’t cross the line to “slutty”. Otherwise people will never take her seriously. When people see her being “slutty”, they stop buying and listening. I have ever argued with people who claimed that Mariah’s sexy image has helped increase her sales, citing the example of how Butterfly and the albums that followed sold lesser than her previous records. And sometimes I wonder – if Mariah made less controversial videos which focused less on her boobs and legs but more on the plot etc, would she be more successful? Would people take her more seriously? Would people listen to what she sings again?

Fun records don’t seem to be working well (they’re not achieving what Mariah used to achieve in the past). But mature records ain’t too (look at IWTKWLI and H.A.T.E.U)! Has it really gotta do with the image? And perhaps the choice of songs? People think that her songs are similar. I think she needs to release something which is musically different. Side Effects was a great example – too bad it was not released. It has this slight rocky edge to it. And a dark theme. Dark but empowering. Betcha Gon Know is lesser than Side Effects in my opinion, but more similar.

Or… is it the change in the industry? People no longer want to listen to Mariah? Maybe it is really as simple as that?

(Sorry for the rambling again. I always do this periodically. Sigh. I just like Mariah too much!!!)

  18. Tobby Says:

It’s not about “fun” records (as she puts it), she had “fun” records like Emotions, Dreamlover and Fantasy back then it just seems like her “fun” records now a days are desperate attempts to connect with the youth… UOMF…?

It just seems like there is a definite dis-connect with her and her music and that’s why people are not responding… it almost seems “put on”.

Memoirs does have some great Mariah moments tho… Betcha Gon Know, H.A.T.E. U., Inseprable, It’s a Wrap, Angels Cry, Langishing, I Want To Know What Love Is.

Please still vote for the videos so that more people can find those hidden gems when the album comes out in March!!

  19. Jeff Says:

    @ Obsessed Fan,
Thank You , You are right. I Agree with you.

TMB and Obsessed as well a IBLULT are Horrible representations of Mariahs Career, Is a 40 yr old woman trying to be too sexy. Mariah is sexy for her age and looks great but sometimes its too much and people do get tired of the same ol sex kitten image that Mariah is portraying. Mariah back in the 90′s was known for her voice but now people dont even notice her voice, All My friends always tell me how she looks so old trying to act young and they never tell me if her voice sounds good or not, they only focus on her looks which is sad.

H.A.T.E U Video could had been a great plot video and a return of the mature videos Mariah used to Make like My All, Through The Rain ect but she just made the video about herself in a beach showing off.

I dont think that people dont wanna listen to Mariah i just think that they want Mariah to stop focusing on her image and make great music and videos like we know she can.

  20. obsessed fan Says:

Whatever it is, I am of the opinion that MOAIA is a really great album. I am still listening to it today! I love how the songs flow to each other. I hope the album gets at least one nod at next year’s Grammys! And vocal performance wise, I think IWTKWLI shld get a nod too, despite its subpar performance on the charts. She deserves a win for IWTKWLI bcos that is THE single that re-established her status as a powerhouse vocalist again.

  21. obsessed fan Says:

    @Jeff

Thanks! Sometimes Mariah’s videos really don’t do justice to her songs – H.A.T.E.U. was the best e.g. I cringed while watching it – I had such high expectations bcos it was easily the best ballad off MOAIA and Brett Ratner had given us the videos for Heartbreaker, WBT and ILT – videos which we all loved. A video can really change one’s impression of a song, honestly.

Thank goodness UOMF isn’t as bad as H.A.T.E.U, and she wasn’t trying that hard to be sexy. Angels Cry is epic. I think she shld do just fine for this Angels Advocate era – hopefully!

  22. ryan Says:

Obsessed was a fun single like TMB was and they where huge hits. i stay in love, Hateu, and IWKWLI etc. were serious and were not hits. AC is a mature song so what are people talking about. Mariah is making serious and fun songs.UOMF is obviously fun and its on the BET chart where as even though AC is much better all the hype is surrounding UOMF.if she releases ballads people complain shes oldfashioned and needs sumthing more catchy and different and if she attempts to be modern people say she should go back to the 90′s! it seems she can’t win!! people said she made no effort for the AC video and was very plain. not glamourous enough. then she dressed up for the UOMF video and she looked like a slut. give her a break!!

  23. Egypt Says:

    Agree with ryan!!

  24. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

    Ryan,

That’s what we called “fickle-mindedness”. People who dont usually have conviction with themselves….

  25. Jeff Says:

well sumtimes its called having an opinion.
I have my opinion and if u wanna call me a hater or a fake lamb then go ahead. I Know alot of lambs that dont always jump with joy with every decision Mariah makes. But either wayy i still buy her albums, download the singles and videos.

  26. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

One thing more,if songs like My All and the likes were released TODAY, do you think guys that it would be as huge as it was? NO… So Mariah doesnt need to go back to the old music that she was doing back in the 90′s. Music like Culture or man at that matter has evolved and will continue to do so and so does Mariah… That’s why she managed to still be there during the 2000′S. Do you actually believe that if TEOM was made in the tradition of her first albums would have more successful? NO again… IMO, Mariah is the most evolved musician in our time and no artist has done that even Madonna who is deemed to be the queen of reinvention but for me her music sounds all the same.

  27. MC Says:

    @ MARIAH MALE FAN

Look at Sade and Whitney, Still stayed true to their genre and Made great music, they did not need to Make Fun records for the Kids , they made the music they are known for and without no hit single are selling more than Ke$ha or Lady Gaga sold in 1 Year.

  28. MC Says:

Nobody is saying that Mariah should go back to her 90′s ways, but for her to make quality music that all her fans can enjoy. Not make music that is a horrible representation of her career, songs like TMB and UOMF as well as Obsessed will never be top notch next to Vision of Love, not even Fantasy and Dreamlover that were fun records.

  29. Candy Bling Says:

So what you don’t like it there are many of us that do! Mariah makess the type of music she likes so deal with it or go find some other single who makes the music you want. How sad to be clinging onto the past.

  30. Candy Bling Says:

Complaing about Touch My Body and Obsessed yet they are amongst her best selling singles! what does that tell you?!

  31. Candy Bling Says:

Typical fairweather fans! Turn their backs on songs and Mariah if a song doesn’t do well. Pathetic.

  32. MC Says:

@ candy bling nobody is turning their back at her, im just saying wat i think

i love memoirs and that album is amazing, im just talking for the older fans or fans that might feel MC is trying to Hard to compete with these young artist.

But like Jeff said, i still buy everything she puts out and will keep supporting her.

  33. obsessed fan Says:

It is difficult to have a decent discussion here without having “true fans” jumping at u for everything you say. Sigh!

Oh well. I have always preferred her music / voice more than her image / videos. The one song which she has put out in these past few years and which I abhor has to be TMB. No doubt it was huge. But I thought it was one of her weaker songs on E=MC2. My favs off that album would be Side Effects, Migrate, ITC, IBLULT, Cruise Control, OOC, FTR, Love Story etc. TMB’s like one of the few songs I skip when listening to E=MC2. I love Obsessed though. It’s such a catchy and fun song. Didn’t sound like previous efforts. UOMF was one of my favs off MOAIA, even before the release of the single.

  34. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

    MC,

FYI. Whitney’s album has been certified platinum by RIAA because of over 1 million copies SHIPPED but the actual SALES is less than 1 million up to this date! So I dont consider her latest album as successful considering her LONG absence in the music scene because her music has not evolved same goes with Barbra, Celine, Toni Braxton, Janet Jackson. Where are they now? Barbara’s album went number 1 but is it still at the charts? Was it even certified Gold? NO,,Why? Because these people refused to evolve.

Mariah’s music has always been a reflection of her present emotions or state of mind or her personal life because she writes her own music and that makes her amazing that she can put out different genre of music unlike other singers who only sing songs that were composed by others. And this is the reason why each album that she puts out are quite different from each other.

  35. MC Says:

    @ MARIAH MALE FAN\

    I know that and IDC
i love mariah and like i said still will continue to buy her cds, singles and videos and will support UOMF and AC till they become number 1.

I dont have a problem with her music nor her image.
    I love her.

and instead of arguing lets download UOMF sum more and continue to vote for iton 106 and park

  36. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

Ask Whitney to come up with a follow up album after a year and lets see if it will even go gold… the 900k sales of her latest album, which for me is frustrating (thank God that she doenst have fans that are so critical a some MC “fans”) was due to the hype of her comeback after that so called drug addiction. A follow up album I doubt if will even surpass EMC2.

  37. Marc Says:

Wow, lots of bickering I see. I don’t know what to say about Mariah’s career except I continue to enjoy her many facets and no one is perfect.

I don’t know where Ash is but I have noticed this board hast turned into a not so friendly place.

  38. rea c Says:

Here’s a novel idea…. How about letting Mariah record the music she wants to! If she’s
happy with the albums, then who cares if it goes gold, platinum, zircon, or whatever?

If you like MOAIA, then listen to it, if you don’t, turn it off.

There is not one single performer with a career the length of Mariah’s who has not had their peaks and valleys. Not every note she writes has to be a masterpiece!!

If this is music she feels like she wants to record and share, why does she have to
    please carping “fans”.

She has given us dozens of songs of all styles to pick and choose our favorites from,
    so please people, lighten up!

  39. Marc Says:

    Rea C,

Preach on it! Because MC scaled the heights that she did in 20 years so quickly it is as if she’s a 40 year veteran, so she has nothing left to prove. This is basically time for her to coast, but I understand people wanting her to shatter The Beatles ceiling.

If it happens, it happens. If not, then that’s OK too!

  40. rea c Says:

I would love her to break their record too, but who knows when or with what song.

I mean, really, did anybody think TOUCH MY BODY was gonna be a #1 song? Don’t
get me wrong, I think it’s fun and the video was crazy funny, but I honestly didn’t
    see it as #1.

You never really know what’s gonna be the next hot trend. Honestly, when I listen
to the radio now, I think Mariah’s music is Pulitzer Prize worthy, but I clearly don’t
have my finger on the pulse of popular culture. I hear the same crap that all sounds
the same played over and over!! It may be better in other parts of the country, but
I live in New York, and our radio stations suck canal water!!

As Mariah gets older, as with any singer, her voice is changing and thus the music will
change. She had to know that doing an album influenced by Minnie Riperton ( and if
you listen closely, you really hear the influence) was probably a labor of love, and
not a triple platinum seller. I would be curious to see in a poll just how many of todays
radio, youtube, itunes users could have a discussion about Riperton’s music.

Anyway, I’m probably dating myself, huh? Over the course of her career, Mariah has
done a couple of jazz influenced numbers, and I loved them! Maybe down the road
we’ll get a jazz album from her?

I think also, that Mariah’s been bitten by the acting bug, and it’s going to take up
more and more of her time (for good or bad remains to be seen)!

  41. Marc Says:

    Rea C,

We think alike. I own the definitive collection of Riperton’s work and I think many people didn’t understand the vibe Mariah was going for with Memoirs and it turned them away, but MOAIA is a terrific album.

I find it interesting that MC is accused of playing it safe but when she ventures off the usual path and puts out a non-commercial sounding album people don’t know how to respond.

She is essentially always going to be damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.

  42. rea c Says:

Hey… I finally got a chance to see 106 and Park, and our girl is #1!!!!!!!!!

  43. Marc Says:

Congrats on UOMF at #1 on BET.

  44. ryan Says:

brilliant. i hope AC is next. its way to good not to be a hit!! :)
