I just don’t know how such a perfect album is not doing what it should! Seriously either music interests have changed or industry/economy/illegal downloading is the cause! Because Mariah did put her all in this album!!!

Im sad that it did not sell well. Dont let Dream Produce again. One song only girl.

I really keep on wondering where the disconnect is? Unbelievable!! This album is so good to fail this way at this point not even a GOLD

The disconnect is that POP/Dance has emerged as a leading force in the changing musical landscape and since Memoirs is R&B the Mariah music brand isn’t “IN” right now.

Yes I agree with indi. Listen to the huge hits for the past year. It’s not the brand of old school R&B pop that Mariah is doing. BEP’s electronic dance pop with an urban flavour. Lady Gaga’s dance-oriented pop. Beyonce’s urban dance anthems.
Mariah might stand a chance had she released an album with more club-friendly and dance-oriented songs. Obsessed managed to succeed because of its controversial lyrics and music video - interest was sustained for a long enough period for people to notice it. But that was it. Mariah has to release some really hot mid to uptempo tracks to make it work for her. The idea of a remix album is not that bad, I would say.

I disagree.
yes, dance pop is “IN” right now, but what about Barbra Streisand, Michael Buble, Susan Boyle and Norah Jones?!?! They’re not making dance pop records, but still managed to outsell the others and have hit albums.
Memoirs are not that good. That’s the truth. To me, it now sounds like a collection of B-sides.
Remix album will be a fluke as well. There is NOTHING that can save this. Only good new songs.
And people are not into albums anymore in general. They wait for good singles and get them alone.

Norah JOnes, Michael Buble, Barbra are very much “album” artists. They dont sell single successfully. Look at Norah Jones, none of her singles in this album are in the charts b ut her album is successful. Mariah is of different league, she can sell a single and a whole album. But what is happening to Memoirs??? Im going insane.

But on the side notes, I dont think that Barbra’s album is a hit one, same goes with the other artists. Only JayZ, Susan Boyle are up for a hit album really. Look at the other albums that debuted on top of the charts, they all slipped down the charts so rapidly too.
