CAREY ON: Mariah Carey
Wed, Mar 10, 2010
Mariah Carey makes her 28th visit to the Adult Contemporary chart, as “Angels Cry” starts at No. 30. The song marks the first appearance on the list for featured artist Ne-Yo.
The ballad is the second song from Carey’s album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” to reach the tally, following the No. 10-peaking “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Carey had not charted two tracks from the same album on Adult Contemporary since the title cut from “Butterfly” (No. 11) and “My All” (No. 18) in 1997-98.
First released on “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” without Ne-Yo, the new version of “Angels Cry” previews Carey’s duets/remix album “Angels Advocate,” due March 30.

Hope AC will be big, maybe time to start supporting it instead of UOMF?

It is a testament to her career that even low key songs with little radio airplay can still add to her chart history feats.
LET’s request at AC radio NOW!

THIS IS GREAT NEWS! THAT SONG HAS #1 WRITTEN ALL OVER IT! That song is a beautiful duet and if POP radio will eventually start playing it, then it will become #1!!!!! Mark my word!

Number 30 is actually very few spins. Urban AC is already abandoning Angels Cry. I think it’s one of the BEST Mariah songs every. I love it. Let’s request, but Angels Cry does not appear to be going anywhere (it’s target format was Urban AC, and the song is dropping and failed to reach the top 20).
UOMF is now dropping at all its formats, so it’s done as well.

I think it may be time for a new single! Haha. What about a totally brand new one? Or one with reworked vocals? I think us fans would appreciate it!
Anyways, I still am puzzled about the lack of interest in UOMF and AA. UOMF is totally POP-frenly! What happened?! And AA is beautiful and I think Ne-Yo did his trick there. What happened as well?! Sigh.

Obsessed fan,
The reality is there will be no more singles. The project is DEAD!
What happened is that the public views Mariah as terribly passe when juxtaposed with today’s new crop of artists.

Jeff,
Exactly! We are witnessing another new dawning in music and the artists of the 90s and 2000s could be on their way out.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again unless you’re not making electropop/dance pop you won’t have any hits. At least in the current state of the music business.

Every 20 years there is a new generation of music fans… that’s why the 20 year mark is so hard for artists (Janet -20 Y.O, Madonna - American Life)
So Mariah Carey has two choices, try and capture the new generations ears or take lower sales and play to her generation of fans that loved her in the first place. She did this a bit on Memoirs with the old school sound but with singles like Obsessed and Up Out My Face it’s clear that she’s trying to sell to both sets of generations.
I think she should make a really mature album next, work with Big Jim Wright and Walter A… and have songs like Circles, Mine Again, It’s a Wrap… those are the songs that the old generation will buy.

I agree. I think we all have to realize that Mariah may not be all over the radio again. She has had a great run ! 20 years of pure excellence. I’m happy with her and all that she has done. And I will support AA if it comes out. Looking forward to hearing new remixes. It’s funny. The two songs that she has released, if Beyonce had sang them, they would have been hits. Sign of the times ! Mariah fan forever !

I think Mariah has tried to appeal to both new and old generations of musiclovers by releasing AC and UOMF. AC is definitely targeted at the older generation of music lovers, whereas UOMF is aimed at the youth market. Alas! Both singles have flopped!

This always happens. At the turn of the decade, Mariah’s singles are struggling, she has troubles with her label and her boss, and her current label signs Jennifer Lopez. Haha! The good news is, she always gets the Song of the Decade in 5 years (like in 1995 and in 2005).

Oh yeah. that is so true. so if this AA just flops, she should drop out of IDJ, have a kid, couple of years vocal rest, sign onto sony or sumfin. then…song of decade 2015, HERE SHE COMES…if not then i dont really care. i will still enjoy her music + voice as ive always done, warts and all. wow! I really enjoyed reading these comments on here, very positive and good opinions…
only time will tell, and i think Mariah will stay on top regardless if she slips down a few spots she will always be at the top with the best. Her career have seen highs and lows, but I doubt it’s reached its peak yet.
I think people have gotten so use to seeing Mariah and hearing her that they have lost interest and think she will always be here, It would be wise if MC left and let the music industry crumble and make people beg and plead for Mariah’s return, and when she does it’ll be like EOM X50.. and with each album after it will get better and better.
Only then will people that didn’t understand or appreciate Mariah, will learn of her talent and begin to appreciate her true talent and artistry.
