She’s been keeping a low profile of late, but seen here making her first public appearance in months, Mariah Carey is looking curvier than ever.

The singer and husband Nick Cannon have made no secret of their desire to start a family and the diva’s fuller figure will no doubt fuel speculation that motherhood could be on the cards.
Mariah, 40, was pictured in Brazil leaving a steak house in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and poured her voluptuous frame into a flowing brown maxi dress.

Back in October Mariah and her husband of two years Nick admitted they were keen to have children in the near future.

‘Definitely, we want a family,’ the American star told InTouch magazine. ‘Yes, of course. It’s at the forefront of our minds.

‘We’re very close. But we want to enjoy our first year together.

In the interview the couple, who split their time between their Los Angeles and New York homes, revealed they would like to have two children.

At the Independent Spirit Awards in March, Mariah dropped another hint, telling the crowd: ‘Something else very special is on the way!’

And in June, America’s Got Talent host Cannon, 29, joked he had a big announcement to make, saying: ‘I do want to make a big announcement right here on Daily 10 (an entertainment news show broadcast on the U.S. cable channel E!)… my Jack Russell terrier puppy Cha Cha is pregnant again!’

Yo-yo dieter Mariah was snapped on Thursday ahead of her scheduled performance at the Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro cowboy festival this weekend in Barretos, in the north of Sao Paulo.

But it’s not just the singer and actress’s personal life which is sending the rumour mill into overdrive.

According to reports the Precious actress is still in negotiations to be a judge on American Idol, according to a US report.

Sources claim the pop diva is keen to take part in the reality show because she’s seen the way America’s Got Talent has boosted her husband’s career.

If she signs up for the show she will sit on the panel alongside veteran judge Randy Jackson.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is hotly tipped to fill another seat.

Carey, 40, is understood to have been approached by the Idol producers after music mogul Simon Cowell announced he was stepping down from the show.

The superstar singer has remained tight-lipped about whether she will take the judge’s job, but a celebrity news blog claims she is giving it some serious consideration.

‘She wants it,’ the source reportedly said. ‘She’s seen what America’s Got Talent has done for [her husband] Nick Cannon and thinks it will be a good career move.’

A rep for Carey has neither confirmed nor denied the rumours so far, simply stating that there is ‘nothing to report’.

According to the blog, Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is keen to keep the judging panel down to three people - rather than the four they have seen in previous series.

The source claims Carey and Jackson have ‘great chemistry’, but this should come as no surprise seeing as they have worked together.

Jackson, 53, once worked as the pop diva’s musical director and has written and produced songs for her in the past.

Cowell, 50, announced that he was stepping down from American Idol in January this year - and fellow judge Ellen DeGeneres later revealed that she was also leaving the show.

It is unclear whether singer-songwriter Kara Dioguardi will be returning to the judges’ panel, but Tyler’s place on the show is reportedly ‘all but a done deal’.

Mariah Carey on Capri Magazine Cover

Mariah CareyMariah Carey graces the cover of the Italian magazine Capri. Below is the cover story, including an interview with Mariah in both English and Italian.

Mariah Carey - A pop icon in the motion-picture world

Mariah Carey loves Capri. She loves those small restaurants, that crisp air even in wintertime, Capri’s silent wilderness out of season. However, the last time she was seen on the island for the Capri, Hollywood Festival curated by her friend Pascal Vicedomini, she was certainly not alone. When we got the chance to talk to her, to spend a few moments with one of the greatest legends of contemporary pop music, she struck us as being an extraordinarily easy person, in spite of the 250 million records sold worldwide and her tremendous media presence, although she is one of the sexiest women in the world. She is now busy writing the lyrics for her new album, but we mostly talked about films, about the new film she will be appearing in and about her small and yet incisive role in Precious. And she wanted to say quite clearly that: “I don’t care to be a star. I would rather play in small, independent movies, but telling a story I like. Films that people should watch because they are important”.

Precious won two Academy Awards: for best supporting actress (Mo’Nique) and for best adapted screenplay. It made $ 50 million, five times as much as it cost. The film was awarded its first prize in Capri, the Capri Award given to Mariah Carey.

The film tells the story of an obese, illiterate young girl who suffers sexual abuse from her mother and father and lives in the ghetto of Harlem. What does such a powerful and shocking film have to do with a pop and media icon such as Mariah Carey? Nothing, on the face of it. Nonetheless, Mariah took up the challenge: she accepted to appear ugly, without make-up, wearing shapeless clothes twice her size, shabby, with a fixed gaze onto a horrible life. She plays the role of a social worker. The girl asks her: “What are you? Black, Hispanic, what?” Actually, that is a question that crosses your mind when you look at Mariah Carey. Irish, Venezuelan and Afro-American blood runs in her veins. Actually, and especially face-to-face, she is simply beautiful.

Miss Carey, you chose to play a small role in an independent film. A strong choice.
It was an instinctive choice, but a clear one too. Like with music: I consider myself more of a songwriter than a singer. I’ve been writing songs since I was six. I am not obsessed with my looks. Some pop stars change their look over and over again. I don’t. It was the same for the film. I was looking for an interesting, powerful story, not for one that would make me look pretty.

The film deals with incestuous relationships. A very serious issue.
Yes, the film is about hard experiences in life that leave their mark on you. Films cannot merely be an escape from real life.

You are nearly unrecognizable in the film…
The film director told me: “Believe me, not even your mother is going to recognize you!”. And he was right. When I watch myself on screen, I say: “Who is this woman?”

Have you been influenced by a specific period of Italian cinema?
The movies of the sixties, La dolce vita or La Ciociara of which we see a scene in Precious. I’ve always been moved by those films. I love classic movies, in general. The great American and Italian classics.

Which film directors would you like to work with in the future?
If I were free to choose anyone, Scorsese or Woody Allen. But I’m more interested in the film’s story, in important stories. I view acting not as a whim of fancy, but as a well thought-out choice.

As is the case with Barbra Streisand or Diana Ross..
Yes, and there are other singers who are also amazing actresses.

This film conveys an image of you very different from the one we are used to seeing at your concerts.
I am Mariah at the concerts as well as in the movies. I’m interested in powerful stories that make people reflect on what they have just seen. I could even play myself in a musical, but I enjoy transforming myself into characters. I’m still learning, I don’t want to take advantage of my popularity and I don’t want to play the usual roles.

What do you dream of as an actress?
I dream of playing characters who are very different from me.

Niente, in apparenza.

Potendo sognare, direi Scorsese e Woody Allen.

Mariah CareyFormer pop star Sinitta has revealed she would love Mariah Carey and drag queen RuPaul to replace Dannii Minogue on ‘The X Factor’ when she’s pregnant.

Sinitta wants Mariah Carey on the ‘X Factor’ judging panel.

The former pop star - who works closely with ex-boyfriend Simon Cowell and his contestants on the singing show - would love to be considered for a bigger role on the programme when Dannii Minogue is on maternity leave and hopes the ‘Obsessed’ singer and drag queen RuPaul are involved too.

She told BANG Shiowbiz: “I’d love to have Mariah Carey or RuPaul - that’d be fabulous. Of course, not forgetting myself.”

However, the 41-year-old star also believes heavily-tipped former Spice Girls star Mel B would be good for the show.

She said: “I have been hearing Mel B mentioned a lot, and I like her, so it would be great to see her on the panel - it would certainly spice things up a bit!”

The ‘Toy Boy’ hitmaker also admitted she is looking for a younger boyfriend now she is single again.

She said: “I’d love to be a cougar. Don’t forget, it was me who coined the phrase ‘toy boy’. I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.”

Cheryl Cole battles it out with Mariah Carey for US X Factor judge post

Monday, May 10, 2010

Mariah CareyMariah Carey is taking on Cheryl Cole to secure herself a place on the US X Factor judging panel next to Simon Cowell.

The pop diva is in the running for a hot seat on the show according to Cowell’s best friend Sinitta who spilled the beans to the Daily Mail.

There have been many big names rumoured to be in the pipeline to take their place next to the pop mogul on his new American show.

It was recently rumoured that Cat Deeley had been offered a place on X Factor after her success on other popular American TV shows.

However, she has confirmed that there is no truth in the rumours saying: ‘I don’t know a thing about it, not a thing.’

But she hasn’t denied claims that her and UK X Factor host Dermot O’Leary are being lined up as the show’s presenters across the pond.

Miss Deeley said: ‘You never know, providing I’m not chatting to someone else.’

‘I love Mr O’Leary. I’ve been a big, big fan of Mr O’Leary’s since I worked with him,‘ she added.

The biggest buzz over who will be crowned as a judge has come from the rumours surrounding Cheryl Cole. The Girls Aloud singer, since the beginning of the year, has been at the centre of the X Factor speculation.

But even though Cat Deeley may have been knocked from the running; it seems Cheryl now faces major competition from an equally big name as hers - Mariah Carey.

This latest gossip came after Sinitta accidently let the cat out of the bag. Speaking to the Daily Mail she said: ‘It’s amazing that so many people want to do it…it’s huge.’

‘Everybody is up for it, Mariah…ok I’m not saying anymore!’

It’s clear the Hero singer would be a better hit with audiences in America than Geordie Cheryl - many Americans don’t even understand her accent.

However since her split from love cheat Ashley, Cheryl has been snapped house-hunting in LA in the same neighbourhood as Mr Cowell. She has also had massive support from big US music names such as Jay-Z, Will.I.Am and Rihanna.

Let the battle of the pop divas commence…

Mariah Carey greets husband Nick Cannon with a kiss after a run-in with the police

They’ve been accused of being one of the most nauseating couples in showbusiness.

A tag Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon are clearly oblivious to as they indulged in yet another public display of affection.

They stopped for a hug and a kiss for the cameras as they left a restaurant in Los Angeles yesterday.

But Mariah’s eagerness to smooch her other half could also have been her way of seeking some comfort after a confrontation with a police officer a few hours earlier.
The couple went out in Beverly Hills on Saturday for a bite to eat, stopping at a church on the way.

As as the 41-year-old singer sat patiently waiting for her 29-year-old husband, who appeared to have popped inside the place of worship, a police officer on a motorbike approached her car window.

It is not sure what the officer wanted with her but eyewitnesses said he was quick to pull up to Mariah.

However, all was well that ended well, so it seemed, because after a quick chat, the policeman turned on his heel, got on his bike, and left them to it.

Mariah and Nick then went on to the Beverly Glen Deli where they enjoyed a spot of lunch before heading back to their car - but not before Mariah stopped to give her beloved a kiss.

She also looked fuller in the face, her recent weight gain all to apparent in her revealing summer dress.

But her curves are clearly a delight for Cannon as the couple get ready to celebrate their second wedding anniversary on April 30th.

He revealed that they were planning to get married again and added: ‘We get married every year! That’s our thing. So it’s going to be our third wedding this year. That’s what we’ll be doing on the actual [anniversary]… We’ll do something, a party or event, just to celebrate.’

Jasmine talks about anniversary celebrations with Mariah Carey

Monday, April 19, 2010

Mariah CareyWhenever March and April come around I brace myself for Mariah to call up last minute and suggest sweetly ‘’hey what you doing next week? Wanna come and join me for a last minute 27th March anniversary /Wedding nuptial renewals /vacation/party/celebration?’’

And yet whilst I know that I have pressing things to attend to here at home-how can you refuse an offer like that from a living legend like Mariah? It used to knock me off kilter when I was a boring Capricorn that likes to plan her diary at least a month in advance but I’ve learnt over the years to ‘’be malleable.’’

This year the call came around 10 days ahead-which for her majesty Mrs Cannon is pretty decent notice! After throwing in 10 bathing suits, a couple of dresses and a tracky into my now extremely battered suitcase, I Jumped on an American Airlines flight wearing my Gucci boots and very English classic lady look. At check-in the stewardess mentioned that she followed my column and as I checked in at the gate I was informed that my seat had been changed. Assuming that my lovely aisle seat had been given to another and I’d been chucked mid-row my neck started twisting outta shape as I questioned ‘’why have you moved me?’’. I was ready to kick off before feeling real stupid as the clerk smiled ‘’we’ve upgraded you’’. ‘‘Oh’’ I giggled embarrassed and had a very pleasant experience sleeping flat all the way en route to my girls pad in New York.

Once I arrived at Mr and Mrs Cannons lair I was informed there was a note for me in the kitchen. Reading it I was informed that because Mr C awakes at 4am for his daily breakfast radio slot, the Carey-Cannons were already in bed (it was midnight), but that they’d left me ‘’some food in the fridge’’. Trying not to jump for joy as my mouth dribbled at the sight of UBER bourgeois eatery Mr Chows legendary squab in iceberg lettuce, I continued reading….’’oh, and there’s a surprise for you in the media room’’.

Curiosity out did my exhaustion as I padded down to the media den where our mutual friend had been waiting with MC all day to surprise me with her newborn baby!.

I gushed and got my broody on for a couple of hours .We are all inspired by our friends beautiful baby.

Not wanting to waste food that costs as much as my weekly wage-(ok I may be exaggerating- but only slightly), I then had Mr Chows for breakfast too before us 3 girls (MC, myself and Rachel) piled into the black convoy of vehicles that carried us to the private airfield to one of Mrs C’s favourite places in the world-Puerto Rico!.

En route to PR we played the same silly games that 12 year old girls all over the planet play whilst nibbling on crudités and sipping coconut water . I promised not to tweet that we were going to PR so I tweeted ‘’the islands’’ instead. I shouldn’t have bothered cos on arrival at the San Juan airfield the paparazzi was lurking in ambush for Mrs C and the tabloids had her plastered all over the next morning, and I just shrugged my shoulders and quipped ‘’right then, I’ll get tweeting haha’’.

En route to our lovely location at 2am MC insisted on stopping at an American superstore version of Boots chemist, to pick up ‘’noodles for the water’’ and ‘’candy for her husband’’ ( translation-what we Brits call floaties and sweets ’’. I know I should be used to it by now but every time MC insists on walking into regular stores and shopping it makes me chortle hard inside .If only they could see her now. The stores staff tried to hold it down but eventually cracked as a line of picture requests politely gathered and MC quickly accepted them all. (as the drive continued I had to wonder; why are there SO MANY burger kings in PR?))

That evening we had a small slumber party in our pyjamas and caught up as the Carey-Cannons 3 puppies ( JJ, Cha Cha and their son Dolomite) ran amok around us. We lovingly call them the 3 –puppy- circus due to their constant bouncing and whizzing around us. At one point in his excitement, Dolomite bounced up as we were playing and managed to pull my top clean off! It was like a slow motion cartoon where I protectively clutched my lady parts in modesty!.

I assumed it was just a one off accident until moments later when he sprinted out of MC’s room with her just- laid –out- panties in his mouth as MC and he proceeded to have a hysterical tug of war. That puppy is officially a freak.

For the next few days we hung out on the veranda admiring the ocean, amazing sculpted fauna and golf courses, Olympic sized pools, hot tubs and play pools, marina and breath taking rain forests in the distance, ate well and slept. Female pup Cha Cha clearly knows she’s one of the ladies and would hang out with us all day curling up wherever we were. Most afternoons we migrated to the boat and jumped in and out of the ocean as we had our surf lessons and swam out to the famous island where MC shot her legendary classic ‘’Honey’’ video.

I don’t know how it happens but Mr and Mrs C’s pets always love the water whether its an ocean, pool or hot tub. MC was the perfect student and persevered in the water until she was surfing away with the 3 pups surfing on her board simultaneously with her. It had to be seen to be believed!. I gave it a few shots then stuck to the basic activity of floating lazily doing nothing and then jumping back on the boat and machete whacking the hell out of the fresh coconuts and scooping out the delicious flesh, scaring Mrs C silly that I’d do myself an injury. In the evening we debated about American food being better than England’s food, and argued long and hard about which we preferred and was the most authentic. Mrs C also cussed us all out for being on our digital devices all day long what with some on twitter, facebook and the guys checking sports constantly , ‘’whilst we were all in such a beautiful place’’.

On April Fools Day everyone tried to trick everyone. I told them ‘’in England it only counts before noon’’. Thereafter ‘’in England’’ (in a haughty lady of the manor voice) became a joking point to cuss me with every few minutes. A couple of tricks did go down but I’ve been sworn to secrecy. One afternoon we hung by the pool where poolside Liam Gallagher and all of Prodigy were knocking back the beers and having fun as the odd American that recognised them became overly excited..

Mr C-AKA Mr Nick Cannon, as usual had a long working week with his daily radio show early every morning then his filming for “Americas Got Talent” , which meant he cold only join us on the Good Friday in Puerto Rico.

On the Saturday we jumped on the Carey-Cannons jet which whisked us off to  Orlando where we spent another couple of days having fun. Of course Easter Sunday we remembered the Lord and chilled out, (‘’Jesus is the reason for the season’’-Nicks fave line!) .

On Easter Monday we contemplated joining the public Easter egg hunt where 4000 people would be hunting eggs but then Nick got his grown man on and put it into perspective for us and reminded us that the publics focus would quickly go from hunting eggs to hunting Mrs C. We knew he was bang on point so instead we began our day (at 5pm) painting Easter eggs. No. Really. Myself, Mr and Mrs C and our good friend Rachel got all competitive dyeing eggs, painting on motifs, and being crazy competitive. We had Easter baskets with loads of fresh eggs, paint, sparkles, ribbon, confetti, you name it, our eggs weren’t ever gonna be anything but first class!

I painted a cool baby pink egg and frosted it with silver sparkles. I had no shame in stealing Mr and Mrs C’s artistic egg ideas too and stuck funny faces on them. If you think all this sounds too surreal well picture this. Myself, Rachel and MC did all this wearing baby pink bunny ears throughout. Yep- we’re forever 12. Nick even bought Mrs C a toy princess tiara, earrings and necklace from the toy store that were appropriately pink yet lavender.

On my final day before I had to jet back home Mr and Mrs C took me to Universal Orlando theme park where they say ‘’you ride the movies’’. It was no empty boast-the rollercoaster’s were amazing!. We went on the RIP RIDE ROCKIT  -scary as hell, fast, high and the drops were stomach curdling. I didn’t open my eyes once!. Next it was THE INCREDIBLE HULK COASTER and THE DUELLING DRAGONS where I decided to bite the bullet and stay open eyed throughout-it was magical. We were riding them at sunset so the colours and lights around the city were stunning. Of course when you attend with Mr and Mrs C you don’t line up-you’re escorted very quickly and expertly by a security team that whisked us backstage from ride to ride. Every now and again people would spot the superstar couple and cheer and applaud . Just another day in the life of the Carey Cannons but to me-these are once in a lifetime adventures I’ll treasure for ever!. Happy anniversary MRS C!
