Nick Cannon says wife Mariah Carey, 41, isn’t so much “superstitious” about her rumored pregnancy, as she told Showbiz 411 last week.
“I think it’s more of a spiritual thing,” Cannon, 29, told UsMagazine.com at Sunday’s Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the U.S. Open. “Like trying to stay true and stay private for as long as you possibly can. She wants to keep as much privacy as she possibly can.”
“When the time is right, everyone will know,” Mariah said in her message.
Nick told Us that she is “working” on an album in L.A. and feeling “good.”
Would Cannon welcome twins? “Yeah! Octomom. Nine kids at once,” he joked. “Whatever happens, whatever life God blesses you with, you have to take it and appreciate it.”

As pregnancy speculation swirls, Nick Cannon will only confirm this – he’s ready to have a baby with wife Mariah Carey.
“She’s very nurturing,” Cannon, 29, told PEOPLE at the US Open’s Arthur Ashe Kids Day event in New York Saturday. “She’s nurturing with me and makes me breakfast at anytime and that’s my favorite food. It would be like 3 o’clock in the morning and she will still make me waffles. She’ll be the best mom.”
If Cannon does become a father, he plans to learn from his own parents. “I want to raise a child like the way I was brought up,” he says. “Be someone who is stern but still fun loving and knows how to have a good time.”
When asked if he would prefer to have a girl or a boy, the host of America’s Got Talent says he “just wants something that is healthy” but is a little nervous on how to approach certain situations associated with a boy and girl.
“It’s great to have a girl until she turns into a teenager. Then you have to worry about every other boy in the neighborhood and that would freak me out,” he says. “With a boy, I’d be worrying about him breaking his arms and his legs. I was that type of kid. I was a daredevil so I’d be having to worry about that.”

After a report surfaced on Wednesday claiming that Mariah Carey was four months pregnant, husband Nick Cannon continued to dodge questions about a possible baby when Access Hollywood caught up with him on Wednesday.
“When she’s ready to say whatever she wants to say, she’ll say it,” Nick told Access backstage at “America’s Got Talent” on Wednesday night when asked about his wife. “She’s like, appreciating all the love that’s coming out… from everywhere, but it’s just like when she’s ready to talk she’ll talk.”
As for his desire to be a dad, Nick has his sights on increasing the Cannon-Carey brood.
“That’s the purpose of having a union and getting married is to have a family,” Nick told Access. “Right now, her and I are family, but of course we would love to expand.”
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, according to Radar Online, Mariah is four months pregnant. One Radar source claimed that Nick has been sharing the news only with close friends.
As of Thursday morning, a rep for Mariah was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.

Though new photos of Mariah Carey performing in Brazil have sparked more speculation that the singer, 41, is pregnant, her husband Nick Cannon says the diva isn’t ready to make any announcements yet.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it time and time again — when my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her,” he said on his radio show on New York’s 92.3 FM Monday.
“Honestly … I say this to you so you can tell whoever it is you’ve got to tell, we all know it’s extremely personal, and it is for a woman to deal with things with her body, and especially when dealing with the idea of childbirth and all that stuff,” he went on.
Added Cannon, 29: “We know that we’re public figures and that’s something but … that’s something that you want to keep near and dear … until you’re 100 percent sure in any situation … There’s a certain time limit that you’re supposed to wait before you actually can officially say that you are. You’ve got to take all those things into factor and it gets really heightened when you’re one of the most famous people in the world because you don’t want to mislead anybody.”

Don’t call him Mr. Mariah. Nick Cannon is one of the busiest men in Hollywood. He just extended his term as chairman of the teens-only TeenNick network through January 2012. He hosts summer’s No. 1 show, NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” as well as his New York-based CBS Radio show, “Rollin’ With Nick Cannon.” And in his spare time, he produces and manages the pop group School Gyrls, continues to produce his own music and travels on a U.S. comedy tour.
The Hollywood Reporter: At 29, do you find it a struggle to convince older executives to take you seriously?
Nick Cannon: Instantly, people see me as talent. They don’t want to see me as a businessman. If I come in here with jeans, tennis shoes, jewelry and a hat to the back, I look like I’m 17. I dress in a suit to make sure you can separate me from the interns. If I dress as an executive, people react to that. And I just switched to a Blackberry. I used to have my Google device, but everybody would ask why I’m carrying a toy around.
THR: You joined the former N network in March 2009 and spearheaded its rebranding as TeenNick. Why the interest in running a network and developing programming for teens?
Cannon: If Oprah can have her own network, why can’t I? Seriously, though, Viacom has been my family since I was a kid. I was the youngest staff writer on television at 17. By 19, I was executive producing. I represent that teen tastemaker, that MTV generation. I felt like I could take the network to another level. Ultimately, I told them that they should let me run this channel. They could have said, “Nick, what are you smoking? We’re not going to give you a network.” But they took the gamble.
THR: Do you feel pressure to create responsible yet relatable television for teens that isn’t “Jersey Shore”?
Cannon: I definitely feel that responsibility, and I take this job extremely seriously. We’re focusing on the transition period of what kids are watching in between “SpongeBob” and “Jersey Shore.” I wouldn’t want my 13-year-old watching that show. We share the same demographic as MTV, so we can push the envelope. We’ll talk about teenage pregnancy, but in a way where it’s educational. We won’t exploit it or glamorize it. We just document life as it actually happens. We’re the responsible MTV.
THR: What kind of shows are you developing?
Cannon: Meryl Streep’s daughter (Grace Gummer) will be in a new scripted series launching this fall, tentatively titled “Gigantic,” about being the child of a movie star. It’s almost like “Entourage.” It asks the question: What if your parents were the most famous actors in the world? We launched “The Nightlife” last week, which fills a void in the marketplace. Shows from “American Bandstand” to “The Grind” were seen as tastemaker destinations. I want to create a place where teens come to find everything from the hottest new dancers to the hottest new fashions. Also, I have a comedy “think tank” I’ve created. Instead of paying for a bunch of pilots, I found young teens to shoot small comedy presentations for a website. Viewers will get to vote on what they think will become a great show. It allows our audience to be a part of the process.
THR: With all your ventures, how do you find time to be a husband and to occasionally sleep?
Cannon: I don’t really sleep. I literally sleep from 7:30 to 9:30 every morning, and then my day has to start. My wife is so understanding and so hard-working herself. It’s perfect, because there’s never a misunderstanding. She’s been the hardest-working woman in the industry for 20 years. She encourages me to keep going. When we have time, we’ll shut everything down and have the whole day together. We’ll be in the pool for eight hours with the dogs. And every 30th of each month is “I Love You” day, so we do something fun. But Mariah sleeps during the day as well, so when I get home at 7:30 a.m., she’s going to bed as well. So we have time for the normal pillow talk and to cuddle and fall asleep together.
THR: Have you spoken to your “Got Talent” colleague Piers Morgan about heading to CNN to replace Larry King?
Cannon: We joke about it all the time. I tell him, “You ain’t got the suspenders yet playa, calm down. You ain’t got the gig yet, so don’t get in here trying to act like you’re Mr. Larry King.” But in all seriousness, he would be perfect for the job. He’s been in journalism for decades. He’s extremely intelligent, and he’s not afraid to go at anyone.
THR: What do you think about all the “American Idol” shake-ups?
Cannon: Simon Cowell was the anchor of the show. And when he stepped out, it’s like, now what? But as long as Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson stick around, I’m watching.
THR: Has Mariah been approached to join the panel?
Cannon: You know what? She talks about it. She says, “I would love to do that.” She is one of the greatest singers of our time; she would be great. I don’t know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do “Idol.” Let’s start the campaign!

Global Grind blogger Nick Cannon opens up on his new show The Nightlife, his beautiful wife, & the key to success!
My wife always makes breakfast for me. People can’t imagine Mariah cooking but no matter what time of day it is when I come home she always has food prepared for me, usually steak and eggs or steak and baked potatoes. I’m a carnivore so I’m always eating steak. She’s amazing.
I feel thankful and blessed for my wife. She is the most beautiful person in the world, inside and out. Someone like her is truly just an angel. I’m in a situation that you have to be ready for. When the opportunity came I knew I wanted to go for it. Men need to get all the foolishness out of their system before they are ready to stay true.
Being married allows me to focus more. When you have somebody that’s your lifelong companion that allows you to zone in. All the other stuff you thought was important doesn’t really matter anymore. Your priorities change.

Nick Cannon is late calling in for a phone interview, but with the schedule he’s keeping these days, it’s easy to cut him a little slack.
In the space of a week, Cannon has hosted two live episodes of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, been on the air daily as the main morning personality for New York’s WXRK/92.3 FM and begun a run of stand-up shows in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. The latter is part of his first national stand-up tour, which comes to the Arlington Improv this weekend.
Pile on to that Cannon’s other careers: R&B singer, actor, producer, chairman of cable TV channel TeenNick, with the 29-year-old coming full circle to the Nickelodeon empire that gave him his breakthrough when he was still a teenager.
As busy as Cannon is, it doesn’t seem like he’d need to add a national stand-up tour to his plate — especially while AGT is in the thick of its season. Within the past 10 days, Cannon has hosted the show in Hollywood, flown to Florida for his act, flown back to Hollywood for another week of AGT, then made his way to Texas. But he says it was time to do the stand-up tour.
“I’ve gotta exercise my stand-up muscle. I’ve got to prepare and get out there,” he says. “It was time to put a few months in on the road, and get out there and develop a strong set.”
One reason he’s doing it is he’s preparing to film a nationally televised stand-up special. Still, it seems like he could do the tour with less jet lag, by, say, doing a West Coast swing.
“But then you don’t really get to feel the country,” he says. “You don’t get to feel all of the perspectives. If I would’ve just done a West Coast run, then that’s only one perspective, especially if you’re doing comedy just in Hollywood. That’s a jaded type of environment. You don’t really get to feel the everyday person.”
Cannon should know; according to his America’s Got Talent bio, he headed to Hollywood at age 15 from his hometown of San Diego and got gigs at comedy clubs such as Improv, the Laugh Factory and the Comedy Store. He did warm-up for the Nickelodeon show All That, and had such a knack for it that the producers cast him on the show and hired him as a writer — when he was 17.
He later became host and executive producer of his own show, The Nick Cannon Show, then went on to a movie career, making his breakthrough with the 2002 sleeper hit Drumline. Around the same time, he began a recording career, releasing his debut album in 2003. In 2009, he took over as host of America’s Got Talent when Jerry Springer departed.
Cannon says his stand-up act will be pretty freewheeling, and that he’ll talk about “everything.”
“I’ve been quiet for a while, compared to all the things that have been going on in my life,” he says. “Talking about everything, finally getting out there, speaking my mind on all issues.”
All includes pop superstar Mariah Carey, whom Cannon married in April 2008.
“She helps me with a lot of my material,” he says. “I always tell people she’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I run everything by her. But I haven’t let her come to an official show yet, because I don’t feel like it’s all the way right where I want it to be, and she’s the person I want to impress the most.”

To us, he’s Mr Mariah Carey. But across the Pond, Nick Cannon has been holding his own as a comedian for years.
And what’s more, he hones it every week joking with Piers Morgan as the host of America’s Got Talent.
Cannon has gone back to his standup roots this summer, with a US-wide tour, which he kicked off at the Playboy Comedy Club at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas last week.
The supercool hotel - which is the resort of choice for countless celebs on their trips to Vegas - is where he and Mariah held their one year anniversary bash last year. So it was only appropriate that most of his set revolves around married life.
Even before the gig, he announced: “I’ve been holding my tongue for a while, and I just celebrated my two year anniversary, so it’s time to go out there and start talking.”
And talk he does. He tells us that even he wouldn’t have believed that he’d married Mariah Carey. That they sit in bed together eating popcorn, watching America’s Got Talent. That he cleans the house using her album covers as dustpans.
He even lets slip that, like Katie Holmes dreaming of marrying Tom Cruise as a child, his number one teenage crush was Mariah.
And her perfectly coiffed image takes a battering as he describes her smearing her face with nightcream before she goes to bed.
The set seems more rehearsed than improvised, but Cannon knows where the laughs are, and he gets every one.
His weekly rounds of banter with Piers Morgan on America’s Got Talent have obviously kept him on his toes.
The women in the audience adore his every mention of his wife, and the men enjoy his impression of a henpecked husband.
It’s not all light - he ends the set with a terrifying account of a gig he played in Tennessee, which ended in racial abuse.
But even in the darkest subject matter, he gets the laughs.
By the end of the show, Cannon has achieved the impossible - leaving the audience with the impression that Mariah Carey is a normal woman.
You have to wonder: does she know what he’s saying about her every night across America?
If she does, underneath the fearsome reputation, she must have a pretty good sense of humour.
Because on this tour, the jokes are on her.
The Nick Cannon comedy tour continues through the States until November 20. See for dates.
