Already celebating because of President Obama’s announcement in support of same-sex marriage, the crowd at The Abbey Food and Bar in West Hollywood was in for an even bigger treat when Mariah Carey showed up out of the blue Wednesday night.
“There was no formal announcement that she arrived at the club, but she and her friend B. Scott held court at one of the main dance floor tables – so she was very visible,” a partygoer tells PEOPLE of the singer, who recently renewed her vows in Paris. “She was very nice and gracious.”
In honor of Carey’s appearance, the deejay started playing her songs, which caused the ladies on the dance floor to “go crazy,” the source says.
Even though the pop diva, who stuck around until 2 a.m. and took some shots of Beluga vodka, kindly posed for pictures with many people at the club, the insider explains, “A security guard had to stay by her booth to control her fans.” – Dahvi Shira

Holy mother of fashion news nuggets! On this drizzly Wednesday afternoon, we honestly couldn’t have dreamt up a style Easter egg as brain-bleedingly exciting as the prospect of GENIUS couturier Azzedine Alaïa outfitting the equally legendary Mariah Carey. Coco Perez reports that the designer “has agreed to design an array of exclusive outfits for Mimi to wear at upcoming events.” If Mariah’s unforgettable guest appearance on the OG run of MTV Cribs is any indication of what the word “wardrobe” means to her (recollect the single-family home sized closet with multiple walls of high heels and the many many outfit changes within said episode), we expect the volume of this couture hook-up to be MAMMOTH.
Mariah has been back in the studio working on a new album, so we imagine we’ll be seeing the custom togs and and new record around the same time. That should yield plenty of chances to check out her haul at press events, awards shows, high profile performances and such. Our minds are running wild trying to picture what this diva-licious wardrobe (and SHOES!) will look like. Curve-hugging bodycons? Mermaid tails with trains for days that almost say, “Others’ personal space? IDGAF”? Will the no-waistband trouser look à la “Heartbreaker” make a comeback? We’ll just have to wait to find out!

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon might soon be working together on a top-secret project. The proud parents of Dem Babies are hooking up for a spankin’-new endeavor that will focus on family.
While the details of the venture are slim, Cannon shared that it will certainly pay homage to their year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
“Yeah we actually got some stuff in development that we’re working on, some animated stuff that her and I are putting together,” he told MTV News. “So you’ll definitely see her in that space too. Oh yeah, it’s just something that we both enjoy, and even more so than that, we’re both kids at heart. So we love those types of stories and fantasy/fairytale type of stuff.”

Before Cannon explores fairytales with Carey, he serves as the executive producer on the forthcoming Nickelodeon flick, “Rags,” a hip take on Cinderella, complete with gender role reversals. It features Nick stars Keke Palmer, Max Schneider and Drake Bell. The network chairman explains that you should expect more and more family-friendly programming influenced by his own real-life role as dad.
“I mean it’s one of those things where a lot of the stuff I’m going to be doing in the near future is going to be really family-driven just because of the fact being a father and wanting to be able to provide content for my kids,” he said. “So it works out really good. It makes you proud when you can have some work that your kids can go see.”
In addition to “Rags” and his untitled project with Carey, Cannon just signed on to make his directorial debut with “School Dance,” which will follow in the vein of “Friday” and “House Party.” Variety reports it will revolve around a teen who wants to join the coolest dance clique in school, though he fears his stage fright will prevent him from passing initiation.
While it seems that Cannon is focused on making projects his kids can watch, it might be a while before Roc and Roe check out “School Dance.”

The couturier has designed a wardrobe for the American pop star.
She’s one of the most popular music stars of the last twenty years, returning to success seven years ago after a negative period. He’s a Tunisian couturier who was hugely famous in the 80s and returned to the catwalk in Paris only last year, after disappearing from the scene for almost a decade.
Mariah Carey and Azzedine Alaïa, united by apparently unfading global success, are close friends. On one of her recent trips to Paris, the singer even took her twins (Moroccan and Monroe, born on 30 April 2011) with her to Alaia’s atelier for the official presentations.
Alaia will design a series of exclusive outfits for Carey to wear at upcoming events: the star, whose latest release was the single When Christmas Comes, a duet with John Legend, should be currently at work on her 14th album.

28-track, 2-CD Collection Contains 14 #1 Hot 100 Hits, Plus Rare Remixes & Selected Album Tracks
Mariah Carey’s first decade of record-setting hit singles, remixes and fan-favorite album tracks are collected on THE ESSENTIAL MARIAH CAREY. The 28 tracks on this double CD laid the foundation for five-time Grammy Award®-winner Mariah’s reign as the top-selling female recording artist in history with over 200 million albums, singles and videos sold worldwide.
THE ESSENTIAL MARIAH CAREY, which is an update of 2001′s Greatest Hits with four different tracks, will be available everywhere starting May 8th through Columbia Records, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.
“I wanted to create a collection of some of my favorite songs,” explains Mariah. “Several of them are very big hits and some are more obscure favorites of mine as well as fan faves.”
At the core of this set is the extraordinary run of early RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit singles that kept her phenomenal vocal artistry at the forefront of pop music consciousness for that first decade. Fourteen of those chart-toppers are included here:
• 1990: “Vision Of Love,” “Love Takes Time”
• 1991: “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” “Emotions” (included here in its 12-Inch Club Mix)
• 1992: “I’ll Be There” (featuring Trey Lorenz)
• 1993: “Dreamlover,” “Hero”
• 1995: “Fantasy,” “One Sweet Day” (Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men)
• 1996: “Always Be My Baby”
• 1997: “Honey”
• 1998: “My All”
• 1999: “Heartbreaker” (featuring Jay-Z); “Thank God I Found You” (featuring Joe & 98 Degrees)
Mariah Carey completists will appreciate that this ESSENTIAL contains four tracks newly chosen by Mariah herself for the occasion:
• “Vanishing,” Mariah’s debut as a producer, from her self-titled debut album of 1990
• “Close My Eyes,” a confessional track from the Butterfly album, evoking her new freedom as a single woman in 1997;
• “The Roof (Mobb Deep Extended Version),” also from Butterfly, Mariah’s first track with the songwriting-production duo Poke & Tone, aka the Trackmasters (Jean Claude Oliver and Samuel Barnes);
• “Bliss,” from her next album, 1998′s Rainbow, one of six tracks on that album that were co-written and co-produced by Mariah with the Flyte Tyme Productions team of Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Big Jim Wright.
In addition, Mariah has included two rare alternate remixes on this ESSENTIAL collection, both on disc one. “Emotions (12-inch Club Mix),” from 1991, the title track of Mariah’s second studio album, is a remix of her record-setting fifth consecutive #1 hit single. “Anytime You Need A Friend (C + C Club Remix),” from her third studio album, 1993′s Music Box, was remixed by her friends Robert Clivilles and David Cole of fellow Columbia Records group C + C Music Factory, who played such a crucial role as writers and producers on Mariah’s early studio albums.
Mariah Carey’s Cinderella storybook signing to Columbia Records in 1990 is entwined with the magic of that decade. At the very outset, she accomplished what no other pop artist had done in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, sending her first five consecutive singles to the #1 spot. Indeed, eight of her first ten singles hit the #1 spot between 1990 and 1993, and the decade would see Mariah place 15 hits at the top of the Hot 100 through 1999.
In 2005, Mariah earned her 17th #1 career single (“Don’t Forget About Us”), tying one of the most enduring chart records in Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1′s. Three years later, Mariah surpassed Elvis with her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit (“Touch My Body”). Mariah is currently positioned as the only active recording artist in the 54 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits.
