There was no raucous wake for Mariah, who opted for a civilised dinner to toast the memory of her good friend Whitney.

It looks like Whitney Houston’s friends took a slightly more respectful approach in marking her passing than her ex husband Bobby Brown, who walked out of the church in a row over seating, did.

Here’s Mariah Carey having a post of dinner at posh nosh restaurant Cipriani in downtown Manhattan after Whitney’s funeral on Saturday.

Normally we’d remark on Mariah being such a showbiz diva that she wears sunglasses while eating her soup, but it’s to be expected on a day that saw her say goodbye to her friend and fellow warbling legend for the last time.

In the second picture, Mariah’s eyes are clearly puffy as she chats to another pal over their meal.

She found out about Whitney’s death while she was in hospital at her husband Nick Cannon’s bedside. He’d been rushed in following dangerous complications from a kidney problem which led onto blood clots in his lung and an enlarged heart ventricle.

Nick told E! Online how distressing the whole thing was for Mariah: “It was tough for many reasons. One, knowing how close my wife and Whitney were, and I was in the hospital during the time, and that’s where we got the news.

“I was kinda in a life-threatening situation and then to see that, it was kind of bizarre and sad at the same time, but you know, it’s part of life and it makes you step back and reflect and appreciate every day for what it is.”

The ‘Hero’ singer is recording her thirteenth studio album after taking time off to start a family.

Mariah Carey’s husband Nick Cannon has revealed the singer has started working on a new album.

The ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ singer gave birth to the couple’s first children back in April 2011, and is now working on the follow-up to her last release, 2009′s ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’.

“My beautiful wife is planning to make her return to the music scene after taking time off to focus on the pregnancy and the birth of our two wonderful babies, Moroccan and Monroe,” Nick posted on his official website earlier today (30th January).

“She’s rejuvenated and ready to start sharing some of the amazing new music she has been making in the studio!” he explained. “Our new family has definitely given her a great new source of inspiration and creativity.”

Nick added. “I’m so proud of her and can’t wait for her to release more phenomenal music!”

Earlier this month Nick Cannon was hospitalized after suffering “mild kidney failure”, and Mariah gave fans several updates on his condition throughout his hospital stay.

Nick Cannon has spilled the details on his relationship with Mariah Carey, describing themselves as “hopeless romantics.”

The TV presenter and the diva married back in 2008 amid criticism that their relationship wouldn’t work, but three years and twin babies later, the couple appear to be stronger than ever.

“Mariah and I are both hopeless romantics,” Nick told Bleu magazine.

“We just made a pact to say that we want to be in this because we enjoy each other and we love each other…We want to be successful at being in a relationship; we want to have a good time.”

“A relationship shouldn’t seem like something you have to work at; it is not a task. We always wanted a fairy tale relationship…and the drama that normally comes with it, we [can] do without.”

The couple are said to have grown even closer recently as a result of Nick’s kidney failure.

Nick Cannon has rubbished reports that his wife, Mariah Carey, will be joining the panel for The X Factor USA.

The America’s Got Talent host was responding to reports that Simon Cowell had persuaded the ‘Hero’ hitmaker to join him as a judge on the hit Fox series and insisted that being a judge on the show would be a “step down” in his wife’s career.

Speaking on his radio show “Rollin’ With Nick Cannon” earlier today, the handsome star said:

“Like Nicole Scherzinger, my wife is not a fan of judging people. Nicole actually did say that she is used to performing, and the judging thing is not really natural for her.”

“I really think that a lot of entertainers feel that way and I think these shows are really good shows, but when you get someone of status, or just big-time, career-wise, to do these shows, I personally think it’s a step down.”

Cannon added:

“Why would would my wife want to be on a show like that? For somebody who has a legendary career, I don’t know why they would do that.”

Cannon then turned his attention to Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, saying that he now views him in a “different light” since he joined American Idol.

However he does not think less of radio DJ Howard Stern, after he joined “America’s Got Talent” because he thinks Stern is not doing it to boost his career.
