Ever since it emerged Mariah Carey had wed her actor love Nick Cannon after a whirlwind six-week romance, fans have been waiting for the first glimpse of the couple as man and wife. They were rewarded this week when the diva and her handsome husband made their first post-wedding appearance at a New York gala.
All eyes were on the radiant singer and her new spouse as they arrived at Thursday’s Time magazine Most Influential People In The World party, where Mariah was performing.
Clearly enjoying their first public outing since tying the knot the pair proudly showed off matching wedding bands – Mariah’s an eternity style, diamond-studded affair, and Nick’s a similarly diamond-crusted design.
The newlyweds were joining other A-list guests at the bash, which celebrates the magazine’s annual rundown of people who’ve done the most to “shape our world” over the previous 12 months.
Oscar-winning actress Anjelica Huston, on typically elegant form in a long sleeved black gown, was also in attendance. Other actors helping fete the eclectic rollcall - which was headed by the Dalai Lama and included Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen – were Ethan Hawke, and father and son team Robert Downey Jr and Robert Downey Sr.

Newlywed singer Mariah Carey has spoken for the first time about her “soul mate” and admitted she has changed her mind about starting a family.The 38-year-old singer wed rapper/actor Nick Cannon, 27, at her private estate in the Bahamas on April 30th after a whirlwind six week romance.
The giddy newlyweds made their first public appearance as husband and wife at Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People In The World gala in New York last night, where Mariah was performing.

Dressed in a tight-fitting silver dress, the radiant bride flashed her wedding ring and proudly cuddled her new husband.
Following her performance, Mariah changed into a little black dress for a romantic meal with Nick at the Waverly Inn.
Speaking for the first time about their speedy marriage to American magazine People, Mariah revealed she had got a ‘Mrs Cannon’ tattoo before the nuptials, with Nick getting a simple ‘Mariah’ etching.

Despite saying just a month ago she didn’t want children because it make her feel “violated”, Mariah has made an astonishing u-turn by declaring the purpose of marriage is to start a family.
The Hero singer said: “It’s (having children) part of the whole purpose of getting married.
“I’d just want our children to have the best childhood and upbringing they possibly could.”
The couple, who originally met at the Kids’ Choice Awards in 2005, fell for each other when Nick flew to Antigua at the end of March to play Mariah’s love interest new video Bye Bye.

Nick proposed to Mariah on April 26 on the roof of her Manhattan apartment as they watched a lighting display on the Empire State Building to celebrate the success of her new album E=MC2.
He surprised Mariah by presenting her with a kids’ ring pop candy ring, which had a £1.25million, 17 carat diamond ring hidden inside the plastic casing.
Nick said: “She ran away and got all shy.”
During a helicopter ride over the city later that night, Nick proposed again and Mariah finally accepted.
Just days later, the couple wed in a sunset ceremony at Mariah’s home on Windermere Island in the presence of a few friends and family members.
Mariah explained: “We really do feel we are soulmates. I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me.”
“My pastor Clarence Keaton flew in from New York. The whole wedding was really beautiful and sweet. Being there with loved ones under the sky … it was a spiritual moment.”
Mariah walked down the aisle in an off-white dress by Nile Cmylo and Christian Louboutin heels, while Nick wore a white suit by Balenciaga.
Nick admitted he nearly fainted during the ceremony: “I was elated, but I was thinking, ‘Don’t pass out.’
“(The pastor) said, ‘The eyes are the window to the soul,’ then gave us an entire minute to stare into each other’s eyes. So I was saying, ‘Don’t cry.’”
This is the first marriage for Nick, who ended his five month engagement to model Selita Ebanks in October, while Mariah divorced music mogul Tommy Mottola in 1998 after five years of marriage.

* 60 white doves to be released while she and Nick were making their vows
* a £10,000 Vera Wang bridal gown and matching bridesmaids frocks
* goody bags for guests, which included a personal DVD memento of the happy couple.
The fact that she was happy to scale things down has got her pals believing that Nick, who is 11 years younger than Mariah, has cured her diva-ish ways.
Our spy reveals: “Mariah had planned an incredibly lavish do - with white doves, a pink carpet, thousands of orchids and a huge wedding breakfast banquet. ”
“She’d also booked the Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel, where Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas held their nuptials. That wouldn’t have come cheap - and she’d have to pay exorbitant cancellation fees. ”
“Everything down to the song choice - she wanted to perform and dedicate a number to Nick - had been arranged. ”
“Nick loves Mariah for who she is and doesn’t give a toss about showbiz antics. He wanted them to get married asap, with no fuss. ”
And Mariah was happy to go with the flow. For once, she is under the thumb and besotted. She just wants to make her man happy.
“Friends are joking that if they were a Shakespeare play, they’d be the Taming Of The Shrew - ‘Mariah the diva’ is no more!”
Certainly, Mariah, who met Nick when he was cast in the video of her latest single, Bye Bye, believes this is true love.

Mariah Carey has confirmed she got hitched to actor Nick Cannon in the Bahamas after a whirlwind romance.
The couple met during the filming of her upcoming video for the single Bye Bye in March.
Just weeks later they were seen out and about - and Carey turned up to the premiere of her new movie, Tennessee, sporting a huge diamond ring.
Cannon, 27, has put out a rap album but is best known for his role in the movie Drumline, one TV series on Nickelodeon and another on MTV.
It is his first marriage but Carey’s second.
The 38-year-old famously wed top music executive Tommy Mottola in an extravagant wedding in 1993. They had a bitter divorce in 1998.
It’s reported she opted for a more low-key affair the second time around, with an intimate ceremony on the beach.

It’s taken three years, but the follow up to The Emancipation of Mimi has arrived. E=MC2 sticks to the sound which won Mariah three Grammy awards. Although this is more of a continuation than a follow-up, this album lacks development, something you’d expect after such an absence.
Once again, Mariah includes popular artists like Damian Marley, and hip-hop high flyers T-Pain and Young Jeezy. Production too boasts a healthy cast, including Jermaine Dupri, Will I Am, long-time Mariah producer Brian Michael Cox and Mariah herself as executive producer.
Those who love the earlier Mariah ballads will enjoy choice cuts like ‘I Wish You Well’, which features an appearance by her pastor, Bishop Clarence Keaton, or the heartbreak-fuelled ‘Thanx 4 Nothin’ and slow-jam ‘Bye Bye’. Catchy first single ‘Touch My Body’ is full of fun and flirtation and a return to Mariah style, while clubbers will love album opener ‘Migrate’ and ‘I’m That Chick’, and pop princesses will be feeling ‘I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time’.
E=MC2 has less of the vocal gymnastics Mariah’s famous for. However the odd high-pitched squeal can be found in tracks like ‘For The Record’. There’s also a real low, however, on album closer ‘Heat’, essentially a nursery rhyme with a cheap hip-hop beat.
All in all, however, E=MC2 is what Mariah does best: mainstream music with plenty of warbling.

Mariah Carey has spoken out about her marriage to American comedian Nick Cannon, silencing doubters for once and for all.
“I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me,” she told People.com, who published the wedding photos of the happy couple.
“We really do feel we are soulmates.”
Nick added, gushingly: “She is beautiful on the outside and 10 times as beautiful on the inside.”
The 38-year-old singer tied the knot to the comic actor after a whirlwind six-week romance in a surprise ceremony at her Bahamian estate on April 30. This is the first time that the couple have spoken out publicly about the wedding.
It was initially believed that the wedding was a publicity stunt because they star together in Mariah’s music video, Bye Bye, from her new album E=MC2, but one of his relatives confirmed the wedding had taken place.
“He called and told us all about it,” said Linda Cannon to the celebrity website.
Bishop Clifford Petty of the National Church of God in the Caribbean confirmed that he presided over their wedding, but didn’t offer further details.

A source told People.com the newlyweds didn’t know each other before Carey’s video shoot in the Caribbean on March 26th.
“Nick was cast as the romantic lead and was flown to Antigua where they met so basically their romance started during the shoot.
“She’s very into religion and Nick is very into religion. That’s something they bonded on.”
She wants prenup: Fortunately, Mariah rememebered to sign a contract before the wedding
After initial reports the couple failed to sign a prenuptial agreement, it has been revealed Mariah did in fact sign a contract prior to the wedding ceremony.
Mariah told Fox News: “Anyone who thinks we didn’t have a prenup is smoking something!”
The couple are currently on their honeymoon in the Bahamas and Mariah is said to be “over the moon”.
Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley said: “She is very happy,”

When asked what he loved about the multi-millionaire singer and songwriter, Cannon reportedly said “everything”.
Guests at the Caribbean ceremony apparently included the star’s longtime friend, rapper Da Brat.
This is the second marriage for Mariah. In 1993 she married Columbia Records Executive Tommy Mottola, but they split just four years later.
New husband Cannon made his television debut on kids cable channel Nickelodeon’s “All That”. He has had a few film parts, but has remained mostly on US television.

Meanwhile, Mariah has enjoyed massive success as a recording artist with her record sales putting her alongside the Beatles and ahead of Elvis Presley in the record books.
She recently beat Elvis Presley to the amount of Number One hits scored on the Billboard charts.
Her most recent single, Touch My Body, was her 18th number one single, and her latest album, E=MC2, also debuted at No. 1 on the charts.

Friend of Mariah’s, Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley, said “she is very happy. I’ve spoken with her and she is superb.
“I received an email from her and she is so happy, she really sounds like someone on her honeymoon.”
Mariah hasn’t taken any chances though and took all financial precautions with a prenuptial agreement.
Mariah told the Mariah Carey Archives website that, “anyone who thinks we didn’t have a prenup is smoking something!”
The singer has a vast business portfolio from record deals, perfume line, real estate holdings and publishing royalties.
This is one star who is in love but will not take any chances that may jeopardise her fortune.

Here at Heat Towers, we all have our weird crushes (James May, anyone?), but according to Mariah Carey, the man who makes her knees go weak is none other than the next-in-line-to-the-throne, Prince Charles.
Mazza- who, just for the record, we think would fit in perfectly as Queen- revealed that she “adores” Brit fellas, and said, “I rather fancy Prince Charles. He is suave, educated and a great role model.” We imagine Wills and Harry are thrilled with that revelation!
