Early UK reviews for Mariah Carey’s “#Beautiful” featuring Miguel are very positive:
Digital Spy: Following up on our recent list of wants from Mariah Carey’s new single – which included a midtempo pace and a nod to her infamous whistling, we’re pleased to report that she has delivered on most counts. In fact, the only request she ignored was to avoid her recent habit of over-featuring her guests, which in this case is neo-soul crooner Miguel. Fortunately, in this instance it only adds to a comeback single that is as savvy as it is wholly reassuring. Rating:4 Stars
Dropout UK: ‘#Beautiful’ is a sensual ballad with Miguel’s staple sound stamped all over the melody and lyrics. With the upcoming artist offering more to the track than MiMi, she still brings her sensational vocals and a few giggles inbetween. Speaking of the love they have for one another and the thrill of being in a relationship, the two battle it out with their vocals, to create a classic R&B collaboration. This is definitely the most current release from Mariah in recent years and is a ‘#Beautiful’ combination of when old school meets new school. MiMi is well and truly back with ‘#Beautiful’ which will be the first release from her new album set to drop later this year.
So So Gay Magazine: With its combination of edgy lyrics, classic Motown sound and smooth, seductive vocals, ‘#Beautiful’ is a sizzling summer smash. Rating: 5 Stars
Click Music: Mariah Carey may well be returning to her glory days if ‘#Beautiful’ is any indication. We find the diva and Miguel in full ’90s R&B mode, which is a welcome return to what Mariah did so well on singles in her golden age. ‘#Beautiful’ makes you feel real excitement for her soon-to-be-released 14th album and that’s something no other Mariah song has achieved in a decade. Rating: 4 Stars
Multi-platinum-selling global singing superstar will showcase her new single this Thursday on 5* in the UK.
Superstar songstress Mariah Carey will unveil the video to her new social-media-friendly single ‘#Beautiful’, featuring Miguel, during American Idol this week.
The 43-year-old singer, who was reportedly paid $18m to be a judge on the talent show in the US, will showcase her song on Wednesday’s programme in America, which is screened on Thursday night at 9pm on 5* in the UK.
Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj join Carey on the judging panel for the twelfth season of the singing contest created by British media mogul Simon Fuller.
Here’s a sneak peek of the video you’ll see in full later this week:
Mariah Carey and Miguel duet on ‘Beautiful,’ and it sounds pretty much exactly how you’d expect: Lovely.
The midtempo track opens with a minimalist guitar and drum arrangement Miguel’s first verse and choruses. “Hop on the back of my bike / Let the good wind blow through your hair / With a a– like that and a smile so bright / Oh, you’re killing me / And you know it ain’t fair.”
Carey comes in for the second verse, telling her biker beau, “I like when you’re at red lights / Don’t stop til you thrill me,” she sings. “Oh, how you thrill me!”
The song is stripped down pop — there’s no heavy duty production, no vocal editing, no post-recorded sheen. The vocals, melodies and harmonies shine, as well they should, seeing as one of the best singers to ever live and one of the best singers in the current game are teaming up. (Carey previously and needlessly experimented with Auto-Tune, and if there’s anyone on the planet for whom that was not invented, it’s the whistle-register diva.)
Carey is back to her best form: Radio-ready pop that still has the R&B flavor she enjoys dipping into so much (and sometimes too much, based on sales). With its combination of edgy lyrics and a traditional sound, ‘Beautiful’ is just that: Beautiful.
Mariah Carey has laughed off talk that Jennifer Lopez would be replacing her on the American Idol panel, a source close to the star has revealed.
The Hollywood Reporter previously claimed that J-Lo had been in talks to take over her seat on the US singing show, before Mariah allegedly threatened legal action.
Mariah is reported to have said: “I love Jennifer Lopez, and have even invited her and her children to my twins Monroe and Moroccan’s second birthday party on April 30.”
“I’m really hoping to see them and our mutual friend Benny [Medina].”
Benny Medina used to be Mariah’s manager and is now Jennifer’s manager.
A Fox spokeswoman has denied the story, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumour, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale.”
A spokeswoman for Mariah couldn’t confirm if she would return for the next season.
Mariah, who has sat on the judging panel alongside Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson, has been working on her 14th album. An executive at the record company Universal has said it is one of the “best albums I’ve heard in years and years.”
The 43-year-old star, who is also planning to release a new single, has reunited with director Lee Daniels in his next film The Butler, which also stars Forest Whitaker, Robin Williams and John Cusack.
She might be in the middle of a dramatic few weeks when it comes to her career, but Mariah Carey took some time away from American Idol dramas to spend some quality time with her twins Monroe and Moroccan on Tuesday night.
The Always Be My Baby singer was relaxing in bed with her children, who turn two at the end of the month, as they waited for their father, 32-year-old TV presenter Nick Cannon, to join them.
The 43-year-old diva – who often gives fans a glimpse of her personal life via social media – took to Twitter and Instagram to share her personal snaps.
She attached an incredibly cute picture of the three of them laying in bed eating popcorn while watching the popular animated film series.
Father Nick was soon joining the fun, picking up his young son for an energetic cuddle.
Mariah caught the action with her camera posting another pic with the caption ‘Pajama party!’
The fun didn’t end there as little mischief-maker Monroe decided to raid her mummy’s wardrobe, fishing out a pair of heels to try on.
‘Ms. Monroe raids mommy’s shoe closet, slippers by agent provocateur (not yet 2 years old!)’, the star tweeted, adding another photo of her and her daughter playing dress up.
The mother and daughter looked like they were having a lot of fun as they spent time together in matching white and pink striped pajamas.
The singer and actress recently revealed that her daughter is giving her a run for her money in the style stakes after declaring on Twitter that Monroe is a ‘diva in training’ as she photographed the pair of them looking equally stylish.
Mariah has also been hard at work in the studio working on her upcoming 14th album.
It has been almost two years since the five-time Grammy Award winning singer released her Merry Christmas II You album in 2010, and over three and a half years since her last full record, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, in 2009.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
So when two American Idol contestants tackled Mariah Carey songs they must have been hoping for bonus points.
The 43-year-old diva had a front row seat on the judging panel as Amber Holcomb and Candice Glover stepped up to the microphone to perform her hits.
And while 18-year-old Amber received mixed reactions to her rendition of ‘Without You’, vocal powerhouse Candice reduced Mariah to tears with ‘When You Believe’ – the song she duetted on with the late Whitney Houston.
‘That’s the best vocal of the night. You are so in the zone,’ judge Randy Jackson told Candice.
‘It’s so funny you sang that song. They won an Oscar for it. I remember being there, seeing it live, with her and Whitney singing on stage at the Oscars.’
An emotional Mariah added: ‘Personally I think you could sing anything in front of anybody, anywhere.
‘I don’t want to break down and cry here because it does remind me of the moments Randy was just discussing and, yes, rest in peace to the great Whitney Houston. I think you did her justice.’
Expectations had been running high for Candice after last week’s rendition of The Cure’s ‘Love Song’ was hailed one of the best ever performances on Idol.
And as well as impressing the judges with ‘When You Believe’, she delivered a flawless rendition of ‘Straight Up’ by Paula Abdul.
‘Unpredictable. Smart as always. Song choice? Genius. No one can do what you do,’ Mariah beamed.
Nicki Minaj told the South Carolina singer she was ‘the voice’, while Keith Urban added: ‘That was such a great version of that song. Your vocals are incredible. You really set the bar high for all the other girls baby.’
Ariana Grande has told Digital Spy that comparisons to Mariah Carey are “a compliment”.
The singer’s latest single ‘The Way’, with its throwback urban-pop sound, drew comments about its similarities to the iconic diva’s ’90s hits when it premiered last month.
“She’s an inspiration – she’s the greatest female vocalist, so it was definitely a compliment,” Grande said. “Mariah and Whitney Houston were my goddesses growing up.”
The star also admitted that she wasn’t expecting the track to hit number one on the iTunes store in the US and has found the whole experience crazy.
“We thought it would get to the Top 15 and that that would be a great debut and we’d celebrate,” Grande said.
“I didn’t expect any of this – and I didn’t expect it to debut at 10 on the Billboard chart either. It was craziness to me.”
Araina Grande’s new single is out now and is the first cut to be lifted from her forthcoming album Daydreamin’.
Blue are an English R&B Brit Award-winning group consisting of members Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe; they were recently interviewed by UK’s “OK! Magazine” & Mariah Carey was mentioned:
OK! Magazine: What do you miss about the old days? Simon: All the book signings and appearances on SM:TV Live.
Duncan: Do you remember that episode of Chums we did with Mariah Carey getting married? We were in the congregation with Samantha Mumba and she told me to try and throw the confetti in Mariah’s face! [Laughs]
OK! Magazine: What was Mariah like? Duncan: Amazing. I went on a date with her once.
OK! Magazine: A romantic date? Duncan: Yeah it was wicked.
She had this Halloween party one year and I was invited. When she met me, we got talking and then she turned around and said: ‘Would you like to go out for a drink some time?’
Lee: I remember that!
OK! Magazine: Where did you take her? Duncan: I can’t remember. I think it was some hotel bar.
After our date, I met her again on a flight home from LA to London.
I was sitting in the first class bar when I just saw this pair of legs walk into the room. She had this little black number on and she was wearing these huge sunglasses. Then I realised it was Mariah Carey.
I didn’t know what to do with myself. She then sat opposite me and asked if I wanted a drink. The next thing I knew, we were doing shots together and singing to each other. It was so funny.
Simon: Now there’s someone we would do a duet with – Mariah Carey.
OK! Magazine: So did you keep her number then, Duncan?
No because she never gave it to me. I had to call her PA!

FLASHBACK: Blue present Mariah Carey with life time achievement award at MTV Asia Awards 2004:
She is hardly renowned for being shy and reserved.
And unemployed teenager Burnell Taylor managed to move Mariah Carey to tears for the second time time this series after his shock dismissal on American Idol on Thursday .
The multimillionaire diva bawled like a baby after the Louisiana native was kicked off the show due to a public vote that shocked and appalled the judges.
In fact there was hardly a dry eye in the house, with Nicki Minaj dabbing her make-up and the other contestants blubbing uncontrollably.
The Glitter megastar was so upset she spun her chair around, so the camera wouldn’t focus on her tear-drenched cheeks for too long.
It’s not the first time Mariah has sobbed for the New Orleans resident, who lost his home after Katrina – she was also moved to tears during his audition.
The public’s verdict came as a blow for the Idol judges, who had been far more critical of chronic stutterer Lazaro Arbos.
All four judges and Jimmy named their ‘top three’ favourites to win.
Jimmy picked Angie, Kree and Candice.
Keith’s were Kree, Angie and Amber.
Nicki’s were the same as Keith’s – but she was miffed when her preferences were announced.
‘I didn’t know this was going to be told to the world…so thanks Nigel,’she said referring to Nigel Lythgoe, the 63-year-old producer of the Idol.
When asked to explain her choice she said: ‘I feel like they are girls’girls and they could really go far in this industry.’
She also complimented Amber on being a ‘young Whitney Houston’.
Randy said he wanted to include Candice too: ‘She is unbelievable as well,’ he said.
Mariah went with Jimmy and chose Candice over Angie – as well as Kree and Amber.
The Butterfly singer, 42, said the decision was a tough one: ‘They basically bound and gagged me in my trailer, I have more of a top five than a top three,’ she said.
She may refer to herself as a butterfly in many of her famous songs.
But it appears that Mariah Carey also likes to think of herself as a mermaid.
During her recent Easter break with husband Nick Cannon and their twins Morocco and Monroe, the diva dived into the water wearing not one but two dresses.
For an evening swim, the 43-year-old singer took the plunge into a pool fully dressed in an expensive black strapless designer gown and diamond jewels.
Looking like a mermaid in the fishtail ensemble, the songstress is seen pushing back her wet locks as she smiles for the camera.
Mariah also took to the sea in couture, the day before taking a dip in the ocean, this time in a beaded yellow creation.
And it seems that Mariah didn’t care about spoiling the expensive fabric of her dress, tweeting the picture with the accompanying caption: ‘Ok so it’s beaded.. I still wanna splash around in the sea’.
Throughout her getaway, Mariah has been keen to share precious snaps of her family with her fans.
Mariah took off with Nick and their children on a private jet to an exotic location for a triple celebration of their fifth wedding anniversary, the Easter holiday and her birthday.
The 43-year-old entertainer was obviously enjoying her break from American Idol judging duties and getting in the Easter spirit.
In another picture, Mariah is seen cradling daughter Monroe who looks cute in pink tiara and bib while Nick is smiling broadly behind shy son Moroccan.
The mother-of-two then slips into a sexy coral halter dress and large pink and white bunny ears as she helps the children – who turn two on April 30 – dye their Easter eggs.
‘Our little bunnies love their Easter eggs!’ Mariah wrote in the caption.
The Almost Home singer, still wearing her rabbit ears, also shows off her fun side by lounging on top of Nick who was dressed in a bunny costume.
‘Happy Easter dahhlings… I finally caught the Easter bunny,’ Mariah triumphantly tweeted.
Mariah also uploaded a photo of her and Nick playing a duet on the piano.
‘Nick’s 327 anniversary gift… fully restored Steinway piano from 1902! Classic,’ Mariah proudly wrote.
In February Nick revealed that he and Mariah might be adding to their brood.
For Valentine’s Day, Cannon told the New York Daily News, his plans were ‘[make] some more babies.’
‘We definitely got a baby-sitter for Valentine’s Day. Those are the special moments,’Cannon said. ‘I am a hopeless romantic and so is my wife.’
