Mariah Carey would love to see her twins appear on a talent show, but her husband Nick Cannon says “absolutely not”.
The singer gave birth to fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe on April 30 last year. Although their children are yet to celebrate their first birthday, Mariah is already hoping they follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in showbiz.
However, Nick – who hosts TV show America’s Got Talent – wants his kids to enjoy their childhood and get an education before they consider entering the harsh world of entertainment.
“Absolutely not,” Nick replied when asked if he would like to see his twins audition for America’s Got Talent. “That’s my personal feeling. If you asked my wife, she would say, ‘Yes! Let’s sign them up next year!’
“The thing that is great about this show is that you’re giving people who would never have an opportunity at stardom an opportunity. As a parent, and maybe because I’m a new parent, I am so protective and so sensitive and would never want anyone to judge my child.”
Although Nick is less than enthusiastic about Moroccan and Monroe being child stars, he insists he will accept whatever career path they choose. If they want to try their hand at music like their superstar mom, he will be there every step of the way.
“You catch me in ten years and my child is an amazing singer or drummer and says, ‘Dad, I want to do it,’ of course I am going to support whatever they want,” he added.
Nick also opened up about his health struggles.
The presenter suffered mild kidney failure and spent time in hospital over the Christmas holidays. He was later diagnosed with autoimmune disease lupus nephritis. The 31-year-old star insists he is on the road to recovery and is feeling a lot better.
“I’m doing great,” he said while promoting the new season of America’s Got Talent. “At the beginning of the year there was obviously concern that I might be overworked and over tired but this year my health is 100 per cent.”
Mariah Carey is amazed by her love for swimming because she almost drowned when she was six.
The pop superstar took to the pool to help shed weight after her twins were born last year and is now swimming and taking 45-minute water aerobics classes four or five times a week when deep down she should be terrified.
The Hero singer tells Shape magazine, “Swimming is my favourite form of exercise, which is surprising since I almost drowned in the ocean when I was six.
“It was scary but it didn’t traumatise me or deter me from going in again. My mother just put me back in the water and told me it would be fine. And it was.”
Mariah Carey felt like she put on “9,000lbs.” when she was pregnant.

Mariah piled on weight while she was pregnant and while she knew it was essential for her babies’ welfare, she admits it was tough.
“I put on around 70lbs., but if you look at photos of me when I was pregnant, you’d say, ‘Wow, she gained 9,000 pounds!’” she laughed to Shape magazine. “A lot of it was water weight because I pretty much had head-to-toe edema, which is very painful.”
The 42-year-old singer has now slimmed down, but it was hard work. She realised simply going to the gym more wasn’t going to cut it if she wanted a super-toned figure.
“I used to be able to slim down just by exercising more, but that’s changed. Since having the babies, I realise that 90 per cent of losing weight is my diet,” she explained.
“Today my workout routine is more about getting and staying toned. And for me, that means either taking hour-long walks a few times a week or jumping in the pool three or four days a week to do 45 minutes of aquatic exercises.”
Nick has been unwell recently, suffering heart and kidney problems. He is now getting better but Mariah found the ordeal terrifying.
She is looking forward to getting back to normal now her husband is on the mend.
“I’ve started writing songs for a new album, which I hope will come out in 2012. Getting back in the studio and making music again – which I truly love doing – is the best way to end this crazy year,” she enthused.
Taking twin babies out on an outing can be problematic when one parent steps out alone.
But even though Mariah Carey was with husband Nick Cannon yesterday it was the man of the house who was left holding their children.
Nick, 31, flexed his muscles as he toted around Monroe and Moroccan in their separate carriers.
Mariah appeared to offer some help by holding on to one of the car seats, but it was Nick who carried the brunt of the load.
The 42-year-old singer looked in great shape in a pair of tight red jeans and a cream and red cardigan.
She was teetering along in a pair of bright red high heels as the family made their way to visit their showbiz friends Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.
Nick appeared casual in a pair of baggy shorts and a printed T-shirt as he carried the couple’s precious cargo.
At the end of this month the family will be celebrating Roc and Roe’s first birthday and Nick told MailOnline that they are planning a lavish bash to honour the occasion at the Kids Choice Awards.
But just quite what the couple have in store is yet to be revealed.
The 11-month old babies were seen sitting comfortably in their car seats, surrounded by some stuffed toys.
And the little angels were just doted on by their parents, passers-by couldn’t resist stopping to coo over ‘dem babies.’
One woman was seen beaming widely as she tried to catch one of the twin’s attention.
Nick appears to have recovered from his recent health problems and looked happy and healthy during the family day out.
Earlier this month the rapper shared a video of himself getting treatment after suffering from kidney failure.
Fans saw Nick, who has also been diagnosed with a lupus-like disease, leaving hospital following treatment and his road to recovery after collapsing in January.

The American TV personality – who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease – has created a documentary series called NCredible Health Hutstle.
The first episode premiered on his website and details the circumstances which led him to be admitted to hospital with renal failure.

“A few days ago, I was with my family in the snow, playing, having a good time,” he says.
“All of a sudden, I started swelling up, having shortness of breath, excruciating pain in my right side. I wake up in the hospital, a bunch of doctors telling me I’ve got kidney failure.”
The rest of the series documents Nick’s journey back to health, and urges others to take inspiration from his plight.
“Hoping this series serves as inspiration for anyone dealing with kidney disease, lupus or any illness to keep pushing as well.” he added on his website.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are reportedly planning a birthday party in Paris for their twins’ first birthday.
The pair welcomed son Moroccan and daughter Monroe into the world last April 30. Mariah and Nick don’t have firm plans for how they will commemorate the twins’ first birthday yet, but Nick has hinted at taking the celebrations to the French capital.
“It’s up in the air right now but it’s probably not going to be in the States,” he told E! Online. “We are going to take it overseas.”
When a party at the Eiffel Tower was suggested, Nick replied with a smile: “You’re good. You’re good.”
Mariah and Nick’s fourth wedding anniversary also falls on April 30.
Nick also discussed boyband Four Count. The star signed the group last year to his Ncredible Entertainment music label and has high hopes for them.
“I remember a few years ago walking Justin Bieber down this carpet and no one knew who he was,” he explained.
“But I knew he was going to be the next big sensation and I feel the same way about Four Count.”

This year, the couple are planning an even bigger celebration because their twins Moroccan Scott and Monroe turn one on the same day, so the babies will be involved in the festivities, though Mariah and Nick are also setting aside quality time for one another.
Nick told Life & Style magazine: ”It’s gonna be big. So it’s a family day.
”We’ll celebrate with them during the day and just the two of us at night.”
Nick has suffered a string of health problems this year and following his recent diagnosis of having the autoimmune disease lupus nephritis, he is particularly thankful for his family.
He said: ”It goes to show you how much things can change. In tough times, you lean on family.”
Nick Cannon has vowed to “get festive” for his wife Mariah Carey’s birthday.
The singing superstar turns 42 today and Nick is pulling out all the stops to ensure she has a fabulous time. The TV presenter took to his Twitter account to profess his love for Mariah and reveal his excitement about her special day.
“Today is the day that my Angelic Soul Mate was born! Time to celebrate! Time to get festive! I LOOOOVE YOU @MariahCarey KKLB (sic),” Nick wrote on Tuesday.
Mariah was clearly thrilled with the birthday greeting and re-tweeted the message soon after.
Nick is yet to reveal what he has bought for Mariah.
However, he is known for splashing out on the star for her birthday. In 2010, Nick helped to design a custom made Porsche Cayenne – in a one-of-a-kind hot pink. The car boasted black leather and suede seats with Mariah’ initials MCC embroidered on the headrests.
Nick isn’t the only person to mark Mariah’s special day.
Mariah’s Twitter followers are also celebrating and posted a picture of a birthday present complete with pink ribbon.
“Happy Anniversary Mariah! We love you @MariahCarey your gift from the lambily is wrapped & ready! You’ll get it in a few hours!! (sic),” Team Mariah tweeted.
Mariah made no attempt to hide her enthusiasm about opening the gift.

From her #1′s collection, Mariah Carey released her version of the Brenda K. Starr hit “I Still Believe” as a tribute to the singer who (as legend has it) gave Carey her first break in the music business. Carey’s version was a Top Five hit, largely due to the maxi-single’s packaging and marketing, which featured a flesh-baring Carey on the cover and contained five completely distinct versions. The single opens with Carey’s original version of the song, which pales somewhat in comparison to Starr’s more passionate interpretation. The second track, “Stevie J. Clean Remix,” featuring raps by Mocha and Amil, bringing to mind the backing music one would find in an early-’70s scary Saturday morning cartoon. The other urban mix, titled “I Still Believe/Pure Imagination,” features raps by Krayzie Bone and da Brat, and sounds like a completely different song. That version took on a life of its own, becoming its own hit on the U.S. R&B charts (for all intents and purposes, it should have been its own song, titled “Pure Imagination,” because, beyond lyrical references, it has absolutely nothing in common with the original song). The mix is, nonetheless, breezy, laid-back, and typical of mid-’90s urban/hip-hop, and features da Brat saying “lose the ego,” all the while self-aggrandizing herself. Finally, two dance/house mixes are included. The first is “Morales’ Classic Club Mix,” which is a standard, but well-made dance remake, and is quite smooth, with Carey giving a great vocal performance.
