Nice to see solid weekend increases. POP seems to be on board which is great, and I think Urban is gonna eat this song up. Increases at all 3 formats

This song is the best, really!!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 7:01 am
the only reason i am optimistic about this song is cuz mariah loves it soo much and wanted to release in the first place which means she’ll do watever it takes to prove to her label she was right..at least that’s what i hope
November 8th, 2009 at 7:17 am
Well, I certainly hope that she will do whatever it takes to prove to her label that she was right. Sometimes Mariah’s choices might not exactly be wise though, I have to say. But well, whatever, let’s support H.A.T.E.U…!!! Let it return to the R&B charts this week, and then the Hot 100 next week!!!

only WE can make this song #1 lets do all we can and more for this brilliant song

David and Obsessed fan,
I think MC usually makes better choices than the label (other than Bye Bye) on E=MC2. It should have been Migrate. It’s a crime that the label DIDN”T WANT her to release Migrate. As for this album, she didn’t want IWTKWLI as the 2nd single. It should have been released worldwide but it should have been the last single for the US (even though I personally LOVE her take on it). Anyway, I love HATEU. It’s raw and structured well. I think people will relate. I think the last verse will make the song cuz it creates that multifaceted feeling of a break up (wanna HATEU but still wanna love ya type thing). Just my opinion
Let’s just request and hope for another We Belong Together / One Sweet Day.

Jason,
Mariah was the one who pushed for TMB to be released as the first single when LA Reid wanted to I’m That Chick. I personally felt that TMB was a huge mistake in all honesty bcos it was mediocre at best – hardly an outstanding single at all. The overtly sexual nature of the song put a lot of people off, which is partially the reason why E=MC2 tanked despite the huge promotional efforts. Having said that however, I have to say that both the company and Mariah herself have had their equal choices of bad singles. :-p As fans we can only try our best to support her and maybe even make our honest opinions heard, in order to help both Mariah and the company make wiser choices in future.
I can hardly blame the company for IWTKWLI. The critics were raving about it – remember the reviews of the listening parties IDJ held? IWTKWLI was universally complimented as the stand-out single. I guess that’s why the company pushed for that instead of H.A.T.E.U. Having said that again, I think Mariah should focus on more up-tempo songs, tracks with heavier beats, club-bangers, disco and dance-oriented songs etc. These are what the public listens to these days. Ballads are outta fashion. I personally think that the faster songs on E=MC2 e.g. I’m That Chick, Side Effects, Migrate, Cruise Control, OOC etc. Yes, OOC might have been a HUGE hit bcos it has an infectious beat to it!
Anyway, these are just my honest opinions. I pray that H.A.T.E.U will succeed though, because it IS really a very fantastic ballad which doesn’t sound like anything from Mariah’s catalogue. The vocal performance is pitch perfect too and I hope it will really grow on the public and let her reclaim the #1 spot which she has only occupied 4 times this decade! Let her at least share the status of most #1 singles this decade by a female artiste with Rihanna (and Beyonce?)!
November 8th, 2009 at 8:46 am
Obsessed fan,
Thanks for your thoughts. With regards to IWTKWLI, I hear you. I guess my perspective was she wrote so many songs that her material should get 1st dibbs. I hear you about E=MC2 too. I love her Up Tempo stuff (especially Up Out My Face and Standing O and More Than Just Friends; however I have to say that if HATEU becomes a smash and I think it will, than it should be followed with Angels Cry. Just my opinion. It will get the album sales up and the fast tracks can be saved for digital sales which will come from the itunes generation. Furthermore, if HATEU hits #1, I think Angels Cry can rival One Sweet Day / We Belong Together. Wouldn’t that rock?
What are your thoughts. Personally, she can sing from the phone book and release it as a single and I’d be happy
LOL
November 8th, 2009 at 9:07 am
Jason,
Thanks for your reply!
I really hope that H.A.T.E.U will hit #1. IDJ has to hold back the digital release of the remix though, until the airplay and digital sales for the track (album version) has peaked. That way she’d most likely be guaranteed #1!!! Her 19th #1!!! :-p
I’m not sure about Angels Cry though. I dig it but I see it as We Belong Together version 3 (I Stay In Love was version 2). It’s either a “make or break” kinda single I think, it either tanks or performs exceedingly well. I would go for Up Out My Face and Standing O as the next two singles though. Especially when both of them have remixes which contains interpolations from her previous songs!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 9:16 am
Obsessed fan,
Good points. Do you think the dance remix (Jump Smokers) will make it to Itunes eventually too? I agree that the “remix” or “remixes” should be held back. I think I Stay In Love could have been a hit. TMB was OK to me but I loved Migrate. That should have been 2nd single in my opinion, followed by I Stay In Love. I think the album would have went double or triple platinum if the line up were as such. Also LOVED Tanks For Nothin from that album. As for Angels Cry, I just really think it would be a smash but your probably right. Go with another uptempo 1st.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:30 am
is it true the its a wrap remix features beyonce!?!
November 8th, 2009 at 9:32 am
mck,
That would be incredible. I LOVE that song and hope it makes it as a single. I think this album is loaded with singles.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:33 am
I think Mariah’s success with this album has less to do with the songs and more to do with promotion and image. E=MC2 was not promoted by IDJ at all, and as with this album they are leaving all the work up to Mariah who is working her ass off making appearances(although she has failed to barely mention the album on a couple of these appearancces). Fans have been bitching for a long time that she should put out more ballads and she has done exactly that! The poor promotional job and sales of E=MC2 is affecting this album, as well as some subpar performances Mariah gave leading up to this albums release i.e. MJ’s memorial. Also, Mariah’s fan base is getting older, and her public image she is still trying to cultivate is that of a hip-hop hootchie. She is not classy anymore, and I don’t find that image attractive on her. When she showed up to MJ’s service with that plunging neckline and halter top, it was almost over for me. That said…I think this is her best album in years. I listen to it comstantly, and listen to every song!
I have resigned myself to just listening to her music, and not followiing T.V. appearances and getting wrapped up in her album sales and how many #1s she has. She has given lota of great music to listen to, and I treasure that. The album I want from her now is a release of her B sides which contain tons of great music, and
I believe would be a big seller!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Jason,
I agree with you! And yes, the dance remix by Jump Smokers should be released to itunes too. Every remix counts! Hahaha. And I like Thanks For Nothing too!!
rea c,
I beg to differ on the promotional efforts for E=MC2. I think they did a huge promotion! There was even a day where the Empire State building was lit up in Mariah’s favourite colour (shades of pink and lavender)! And there was the BET performance, and all the BET snippets, as well as Oprah, American Idol, Good Morning America etc, just to name some of the efforts. I personally feel that the album sales were not stellar partially due to the lead single. A successful lead single is one which creates a buzz and gets people interested in the upcoming album. TMB was successful (since it hit #1) because of the high levels of anticipation but it didn’t get people looking forward to the album because many members of the public had this idea that “Oh God, Mariah is going back to her figure-flaunting, sex-selling days” and refused to buy the album. The singles that followed weren’t enough to undo the damage TMB had done – Bye Bye was a tad too slow and its theme was something which Mariah had dealt with often; I’ll Be Loving U Long Time was just like everything else on radio and I Stay In Love was almost a rehash of We Belong Together (which a lot of others have attempted to emulate since the latter succeeded in dominating the charts for over 3 months).
In any case, I’m glad that we’re having such a great discussion here!
And let’s not forget to support HATE U and promote MOAIA for Mariah!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 10:22 am
People, let’s just all calm down a little bit! “H.A.T.E.U.” will be bigger than “IWTKWLI” simply for the fact that this song will actually roll out properly! The 3 major radio formats are all adding it at the same time and we should see a new video for it within the next 2 weeks once the footage gets edited! And let’s not forget that MC will most likely be performing the single this week on David Letterman
IWTKWLI died out so quick because the song was released and was just left to flounder! It went to radio like 2 months ago and still no video for that single…and “big” ballads aren’t exactly killing the radio airwaves these days. That’s one thing that’s good about “HATE U”, it’s not your typical ballad. The mid-tempo groove to this song is a sound that Rhythmic and Urban radio is going to EAT up!!! Which as we know from “Obsessed”, POP radio will follow suit and especially after the hit that “Obsessed” was!
And Obsessed Fan, while I respect your opinion about everything you said, but “Touch My Body” was a SMASH last year! Not only is that one of her most downloaded songs and videos of her career but it also pushed “E=MC2″ to have her biggest first week numbers of her entire career…it was the follow-up singles that ruined that album. Releasing “Touch My Body” def wasn’t a mistake, releasing “Bye Bye” was a mistake! “Migrate” should’ve been next without a doubt!
November 8th, 2009 at 10:43 am
last year all the fans were supportin the release of bye bye. then when bye bye messed up you all said migrate should have been the single etc etc etc. im in no way trying to be offensive but it seems your all very thickle. as a lamb i take mariah’s side every time, whetehr “wrong” or “right”. lets all just do our best for H.A.T.E.U and all future singles and CALM DOWN
love to u all
November 8th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Yes…not releasing MIGRATE as the seecond single will always be the condidered one of the dumbest mistakes IDJ ever made. After the initial promos though, nothing. When BYE,BYE failed to take off it was as if they turned their backs on the album. Mariah also did no follow up promos for the other singles released. I realize that she had just gotten married, and this was what was more important to her. Anyway…the history of music is full of great “what ifs”.
My comment about IDJ not promoting this album comes from comparisons to other albums that were released that week, and the constant ads I saw for them. Barbra and promos for the album were everywhere!! I didn’t see this for MEMOIRS.
To your point about TMB and the public’s perception of the direction her image was taking, I think you are dead right, and she has made a point of perpetuating that. Thus my comment about how she markets her image now.
Mariah has stated many times that she is eternally 12, and while I like that little girl freshness about her, that ideology combined with a questionable fashion sense (the outfit she wore for ELLEN) kind of gives her a bimbo image rather than that of a true song writing genious with a phenominal voice!! I was in the music business for years, and although it was not the pop industry, time and time again, it has been proven that it is the total package that maintains a succesful career. Let’s face it…there are alot of succesful acts out now that don’t have 1/10th the talent Mariah has.
Anyway..what it boils down to is this is a great album!! I love it, and will be listening to it for a long time!!
November 8th, 2009 at 11:23 am
rea c,
I’m with you on the bimbo image! I always have to convince my friends that she co-writes ALL her material except for the covers and co-produces almost ALL her stuff except for her debut and the songs with the Neptunes. And they would give me “Are you sure? Are you seriously sure?” look. It irks me!
Mikey,
Yes, I don’t deny TMB was a smash considering it hit #1. I understand where you’re coming from. But my personal take is that TMB wasn’t responsible for her first week sales. The sales were probably due to the high levels of anticipation, especially since E=MC2 was hot on the heels of a wildly successful comeback album. If Migrate or I’m That Chick had been released first, I would bet that the opening sales could have been higher. But of course, this is all my personal speculation. I guess maybe I am still sore over the performance of E=MC2. And there were songs which were definitely more worthy of #1 than TMB. I remember telling myself that if TMB could hit #1, then Side Effects, I’m That Chick, Migrate, Bye Bye would have no problems reaching the pole position because they were so much better than TMB! But again, that’s my personal opinion again.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Hres my opinion
e=mc2 single list
1)Touch My body
2)Migrate
3)For the record
4)Im that chick
5)O.O.C
6)love story
So yh IDJ mess up
but thats in the past
lets just focus on Mmemoirs plz
and get H.A.T.E.U TO NO1!!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Personally, I believe Mariah’s career has ebbs and tides and us true fans should understand that. During those tides of her career comes the true fans and the “not so true fans” together. During those ebbs, the true fans of hers are still there, that’s why even on ebbs, she is still on top coz she has a lot of us.
November 8th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Since Rainbow the only smash-album was TEOM, i think we (and Mariah herself) have to accept that she is not as big as she was in the 90′s. Today’s smashers are Beyonce and Rihanna. I think Mariah’s career will go on like many Have-Been-Very-Big-Artists like Lionel Ritchie, Tina Turner and others, releasing albums with a certain amount of success for a certain fanbase (whitch i’ll always be part of) and maybe there will be a huge hit now and then. I think the same goes for Whitney. Big problem is that fans, the industry and the press still have the biggest expectations and this enormous pressure on the lady and her recordcompany. You can notice by the struggle with MOAIA and the singles.
November 8th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
Ben, I kind of understand what you’re saying but I highly disagree. The fact that Mariah, 20 years deep in her career, can still be producing platinum singles that soar at all radio formats is a testimony to her relevance. And just like the rest of the females this decade she has had hit albums and so-so albums.
Look at Rihanna, her first two albums she released really didn’t sell that much…neither one went platinum. Yeah they produced a hit here and there with songs like “Pon De Replay” and “SOS”, but she really didn’t BLOW UP to a super-star until the “Good Girl Gone Bad” album which had “Umbrella” and “Don’t Stop The Music”.But let’s not forget that album also had tracks that did mediocre as well. Does anyone even remember “Shut Up and Drive” as a single or “Rehab”? And that’s when she was the “it” girl of the moment.
Even Beyonce, she’s had dud singles this and albums this decade. Look at the “B-Day” album…the only bonafide hit that album produced was “Irreplaceable”, the rest of those singles all did mediocre at best, even the hyped up collabo with Shakira. And even the “I Am…Sasha Fierce” album…that album has had like 8 singles but the most memorable and biggest hits were “Single Ladies” and “If I Were a Boy”. And you’d think with all those singles she’d be sitting on a 4x platinum album by now but she’s only 2x platinum after a year of constant promo.
And then you have MC, yeah “The Emancipation of Mimi” may be her biggest album of the decade but it’s also produced some of the biggest hits of her 20 year career! “We Belong Together” became the most successful female song in history and broke just about every radio record possible! Which went on to spawn “Shake It Off” and “Don’t Forget About Us” and they both turned into smash singles as well. Since then she’s had radio smashes with “Touch My Body” and “Obsessed”, and this album is still getting started it’s def not dead yet.
Point I’m trying to make is that I think no matter what happens, Mariah has seriously defied the odds of the 90′s diva and is able to still produce smash records 20 years into her career. Records that show her versatility and industry power.
November 8th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Yeah…let’s hope that Mariah is still able to pull out #1 albums like Babs did when she is Miss Streisand’s age!!! Even though I am a huge MIMI fan, it was great to see a big comeback for Barbra at this point in a long and illustrious career!!!
Again, she had not stop promotion everywhere leading up to the release.
November 8th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
ok…MCK Where where did you hear that?
It’s a wrap is a great song.. and with beyonce will be great… but is it gonna happen?

November 8th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
OMG! I don’t believe this tracklisting is real. No way she would collabo with Beyonce and Alicia Keys.
November 8th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Nikki,
Like Bc said — Are u for real? What about American bonus tracks? Bone Thugs-n-Harmony on Angels Cry? I’m trying to imagine — Loved Breakdown, one of many lost singles that only “lambs” love. Someone said that Cyndi Lauper was going to appear on Inseperable — Now those are 2 voices that I would love to hear together!!!
And if it’s true that Beyonce and Alicia Keys are on 2 tracks, all I can say is that it’s nice to see the pack leader being accompanied. Obviously, the pack leader is MC
She deserves the respect.
November 8th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
I don’t think this is real.

November 8th, 2009 at 10:11 pm

I wish 100% sky driving and they don’t know me appear on the remix album
November 9th, 2009 at 2:24 am
this is a correct tracklist.
November 9th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Wow Mary J. Blige and MC doing Its A Wrap? That is so cool, the song has some MJB elements in it anyway.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Mariah Male Fan,
Mary J. Blige previously had a song on her Love & Life album called “It’s A Wrap” anyway. LOL. So which tracklisting it correct.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:42 am
I wonder then if it is true that MJB will guest on “It’s A Wrap” if she will incorporate parts of her own 2003 song of the same name into Mariah’s 2009 song?
November 9th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
I guess the latter track list is the correct one because Betcha Gon’ Know is stated as Part 2. The ending of the original Betcha are the words “To be continued”. Just a wild and playful guess!
November 9th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
its funny to see that on the second tracklisting, they got rid of I wanna know what love is. MC really did not like the song.
