With Promo and good Airplay i can see this becoming a Hit In the U,K.
But i doubt mariah will go over there and promote the song!

Her UK promo has never helped much anyway. Even when WBT was huge she did promo in the UK but it didn’t get to #1 like they thought. She just has never been HUGE in the UK. I don’t think she shoulf bother. Sorry just my two cents.

Sami you are wrong… Mariah shifted over 400K of The Emancipation of Mimi off her “We Belong Together” UK promotional trip. TEOM sold over 600K in total in the UK, making it the second most successful market for the album.
Mariah Carey: The Ballands (180k) & The Greatest Hits (over 700k) have sold more in the UK, then the United States.

WBT only missed out on #1 by 392 copies!

Reece, GH is over 1 million copies sold in the US alone…
April 12th, 2010 at 8:28 pm
GH has sold about 1.2 million copies in the US, according to Soundscan.
I have a query though. I understand that the RIAA counts each disc separately for certification purposes. That was why Shania Twain’s Up! was certified 11x platinum even though it sold only 5.8 million copies. In that case, why hasn’t GH been certified 2x platinum?

Obsessed fan,
The RIAA rule is that a 2 disc release must clock in at over 100 minutes to qualify for a double certification.
The reason GH has not been certified double platinum for shipments, not sales, is because Sony has not certified. The label has to submit the paperwork. Mariah cannot.
Also, The Remixes is eligible for a GOLD cert under the same rule but Sony has not certified.
Having a 2 disc release does automatically qualify one for double certs. It has to be over 100 minutes of music.

Multi-disc albums are counted once for each disc within the album if it is over 100 minutes in length or is from the vinyl era.
According to the RIAA. Christina Aguilera’s “Back to Basics” album was 2 disc but it failed to met the criterion, so it was counted as a one disc release.

MC’s GH clocked in at over 110 mins and The Remixes at over 132 mins and it deserves a GOLD certification SONY!

@Marc
Thanks for the enlightenment!! Let’s hope Sony will submit the paperwork soon! I believe she’ll outrank Madonna when that happens! She’d have shipped 66 units! Just 6 units to catch up with Barbra!

Obsessed fan,
She would have 64.5 actually since she is currently at 63 and if GH is certified again that would give her another 1 X platinum and if Remixes is certified it would give her .5 for a new total of 64.5 and Madonna is at 64 but you know she will recertify to stay ahead of MC.

@Marc
I got this from Wikipedia (and I verified with Mariah Daily):
Mariah Carey – 9x platinum
Emotions – 4x platinum
MTV Unplugged – 3x platinum
Musicbox – 10x platinum
Merry Christmas – 5x platinum
Daydream – 10x platinum
Butterfly – 5x platinum
#1s – 5x platinum
Rainbow – 3x platinum
Glitter – 1x platinum
Greatest Hits – 1x platinum
Charmbracelet – 1x platinum
The Emancipation of Mimi – 6x platinum
E=MC2 – 1x platinum
MOAIA – gold
She’s currently certified to have shipped 64.5 units. I think RIAA hasn’t updated their database to include the certifications for E=MC2 and MOAIA. If Greatest Hits and The Remixes are re-certified, then I suppose Mariah should hit 66 units!

obsessed fan,
According to RIAA:
Mariah Carey- 9x platinum
Emotions- 4x platinum
MTV Unplugged- 3x platinum
Music Box- 10x platinum
Merry Christmas- 5x platinum
Daydream- 10x platinum
Butterfly- 5x platinum
#1′s- 5x platinum
Rainbow- 3x platinum
Glitter- 1x platinum
GH- 1x platinum
Charmbracelet- 1x platinum
TEOM- 6x platinum
E=MC2- 1x platinum certified on 07/08/2008
Memoirs- .5 Gold certified on 12/14/2009
So yes you are right she is at 64.5 x platinum and E=MC2 and Memoirs have both been certified by the RIAA it is just they have not updated their artist tallies since Memoirs was certified.
April 13th, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Neither of the last two albums of Mariah’s have been added to the Top Selling Artists list but once they do tallies will change so we don’t know if she will surpass Madonna yet. Hopefully soon!
