Alot of people have been posting lately that Mariah isn’t promoting enough. I guess time will tell but I think IDJ is more to blame here. When you tour for 2 months, that’s alot of hard work and is considered promoting. Was UOMF and/or AC even released to POP??? Now that the tour is over, it would be nice if Mariah started doing the shows again (i.e. Leno, letterman, etc…) and there should be visits to big radio stations. So maybe IWTKWLI and HATEU didn’t make it, but there is no reason why UOMF should dwindle away. It’s relevant, current, and radio friendly. I just don’t get it. If UOMF was promoted and exploded, than AC would have a true shot.

P.S. What ever happened to the HBO Movie that was going to be made revolving around Mariahs Xmas album???

What ever happened to the Xmas duet between Mariah and her mom???

Another thing I don’t understand is the whole Oscar thing. If MC isn’t pregnant, than what did she mean when she said something very special was on the way but that she couldn’t say more.

  3. klos Says:

Yeah I want to know what is that special thing that she couldn’t tell us…

May be a huge world tour??!

    Jason,

If you have been around awhile, then you know that when MC has two songs in a row do poorly at radio the following songs never fare well, no matter how good they are. This has been proven numerous times. The songs were never sent to POP which is the fault of IDJ, not MC!

I have had the pleasure of seeing Mariah 6 times in the states (twice since New Years Eve at madison Square Garden). Love the idea of a world tour. I would be happy for all the lambs out there who don’t get to see her as much and certainly wouldn’t mind going to see her again. :)

    Marc,

Maybe I chose my words wrong, but I agree as I stated that I believe IDJ is to blame. I respect the fact that Mariah has stayed true to her committment to slow down a little bit ever since her quote on quo “breakdown”. I respect it b/c I think she is still an incredibly hard worker. Like I said, touring for 2 months is alot of work. I, like anyone else, just get frustrated from time to time b/c certain songs are “TOO GOOD” to not succeed. I’ve never expected that every single should be a top 10 or anything like that. For example, It’s Like That is pretty much a fan favorite and it never hit the top 10. I know that radio shuts her out if 2 songs don’t “cut” it so to speak but there’s a bigger picture. The point I was really trying to make is that UOMF is clever, witty, and a great video was made for it, yet IDJ never bothered to send it to POP??? Maybe I’m getting old or something but in todays music landscape, UOMF sounds POP friendly to me. Finally, in so far as to how I feel about IDJ — Obviously they should know better than anyone that she struggles if 2 songs in a row don’t make it, so where in GOD’S name is their back up plan for promoting her material?

I won’t be surprised if AA will get a very low-key release.

  9. Marc Says:

    Jason and Ben,

I hear you both! I am very frustrated and I think it is just a rough time for MC fans right now. I hope we don’t get a repeat of the last decade in which she struggles for a few years. But if she strikes fire again mid-decade that’s OK too!

There are alot of odd similarities between Mariah and Michael Jackson:

Both were controlled by an older male figure early in their careers.

Both had/have Peter Pan “eternal child” complexes.

    Both had troubles with Sony.

Both have been deemed “strange, oddball” and the like.

Both are the most successful solo acts, male and female, in terms of combining #1 hits and worldwide album sales.

MJ was the first solo male to debut #1 on the Hot 100 and Mariah was the first solo female to do so.

Both have had fan bases somewhat turn their backs on them until they made significant music news.

    Marc,

I’ve only divulged this information once on this site but we have a good rapport and I know that your a good lamb so I’m gonna explain to you why MC means so much to me personally. I’ve been a lamb since high school when VOL came out. A number of years ago, I went through a horrible time in my life and I guess I temporarily lost my faith. One night, I went out and had a number of drinks. I than drove to a hospital and parked my car. Thereafter, I took an entire bottle of VERY STRONG PILLS. As if that weren’t enough, I took additional pills. I than reclined my seat (I was actually looking forward to falling asleep and never waking up again). Oddly enough, the radio was on. As I began to get groggy and confused, the song HERO came on. After hearing the first few lines, I bolted my car seat upright and listened to the song I fell in love with years ago. I was listening to an RNB station who often played two songs by one artist at one time. HERO was followed by My Saving Grace (which was barely ever played on radio). I began to fear for my life and I wobbled into the ER (just in time I might add as I wound up collapsing and needed to be placed on a ventilator as pumping my stomach was not merely enough). Major medical efforts were necessary to save my life and thankfully no damage or side effects were incurred. I look back today and realize how stupid my actions were but this is why MC will always be my own personal HERO, along with GOD of course (What are the chances of My Saving Grace being played on the radio at that moment?) Mariah will always have a special place in my heart and whatever album she releases I will buy, whether it sells 100 copies or 10 million copies (i.e. the good old days…Music Box and Daydream). Thank GOD for those who have been given a gift by GOD himself. Mariah will always Shine in my eyes

  12. Jason Says:

    P.S.

Now whenever I see her live, I just tremble when she sings HERO. I think I might faint if she sang My Saving Grace. I heard it live once, but that was before my stupid actions so to spreak.

  13. Marc Says:

    Jason,

MC has done the same for so many fans so I definitely understand the connection. In 2002, I had all but given up hope. I was broke and had no real future and then I turned on my Sony discman radio and the DJ said “Here’s the new Mariah single “Through The Rain” and I felt like I was being sent a message that I would be OK. After hearing that song I knew what I had to do to make life better.

  14. Jason Says:

    Marc,

From one true lamb to another…

Thanks for sharing. When someone pours their heart out on a sleeve, not to many follow with an honest response. It’s funny b/c I’m STILL motivated by songs like There’s Got To Be A Way, Make It Happen, So Blessed, Hero, Mariah’s Theme, My Saving Grace, etc.. I believe that there are times when GOD uses someone to affect the masses so to speak. Mariah Carey IS that person!!!
