    Yay!

  2. Rick Says:

If so, why releasing the song on itunes now?

  3. greg Says:

@ Rick. yeah exactly. has the track even had any airplay or is it just lambs who know about it? if so why release it to itunes???

  4. brook Says:

    Rick,

The 2010 Winter Olympics start this Friday in Vancouver, so the timing is actually right.

    Greg,

I don’t think the song is meant to be going for airplay at all. Mariah wanted the song to be for a special event, which at first was Precious, but now she is letting it be used for the Olympics. It isn’t meant to impact the Hot 100.

  6. Marc Says:

I also believe “100%” is not meant to impact the Hot 100 because of the way it was quietly released. It’s essentially the theme song for the 2010 Winter Olympics which will give Mariah more worldwide exposure. So there’s no pressure with airplay and all of that for the song.

  7. obsessed fan Says:

But it might impact the Hot 100! I hope it does at least make a dent there! HAHA. It’s a great song!!! :-)

  8. Marc Says:

It cannot impact the Hot 100 if it is not on the radio airwaves as per Billboard rules though.

  9. klos Says:

this song really deserves something special… and the olympics are great… I love the song

    klos,

I do too! It’s a great venue for the song because it also fits the theme of striving and rising to meet the challenge in the same way the film Precious does.

    @ Marc

But I thought that rule was no longer in effect? Migrate entered the Hot 100 whereas Betcha Gon Know peaked just outside of the Hot 100 at #101 right?

  12. Marc Says:

I am pretty sure the rule is still in effect. Migrate and BGK debuted because they had small amounts of airplay. Billboard does not allow a song to chart if there is no airplay whatsover. I have not heard the rule has changed but if it has that’s fine by me.

  13. Dubai Says:

    Marc,

I think a song can impact Hot 100 when released dgitally without airplay. Look at Britney’s “3″, which went directly to #1 wihout any airplay

  14. Marc Says:

    Dubai,

Thanks. I had not been aware that Billboard changed its policy regarding the Hot 100 in this area. I hope UOMF can get a good debut.

Mariah Carey doesn’t need any song for global exposure, she’s already well known everywhere.
