So Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” wins Song of the Year at the Grammy and “We Belong Together” was an even bigger radio smash than her song yet didn’t win SOTY? I finally see the Grammys do not like MC.

Well to be fair it’s not like Beyonce had much competition anyway, i mean come on did you see who she was up against? the black eyed peas, taylor swift, lady gaga…the grammys aren’t about quality anymore they’re about what’s most commercially popular, this year almost none of the nominees in the major categories were true quality musicians aside from Beyonce (and Kings of Leon in my opninion), but they were all commercially succesful and that’s what it’s about now (I mean for fuck sake, the Black Eyed Peas getting Album and Song of the Year nominations?)
Next year expect shit like TiK ToK, Whatcha Say, and Replay in the Record of the Year category…sounds like a cruel joke but it’s gonna happen…the Grammys are a fucking joke now

The Black Eyed peas are actually talented and they had a Big year, and their singles actually did great.
Look at Whitney and Mariah and Janet, 5 grammys each but guess what?
They have wayy more awards than a stupid grammy, and awards that actually matter like Humanitarian awards and awards for giving back to the community.
In 20 Years poeple wont talk about how many grammy mariah has, they will talk about her voice and her icon status , i bet in 20 years half the people that ever won a grammy wont even be rememebered anymore.

Have no problem with Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Lady Gaga etc.. Persoanlly, I just like to poke fun at the Grammy’s … And we may have a disagreement but I’m not impressed by the BEP. It’s just my opinion… I like rap infused in a song but I’m not into rap songs. I stand by my words… UOMF seems to be taking off quickly and I believe AC will slowly TAKE OFF!!! I’m happpy for BEYONCE; however I would appreciate if the Grammy’s would recognize MC. It’s intersting to me when ARTISTS get overlooked, considering that they WRITE their own music. I don’t consider this to be jealous for no reason…It’s not about how MANY GRAMMYS she has… It’s about the quality of the work..ANGELS CRY CONSIDERING THAT MC IS 1 NOMINATION AWAY FROM BEING THE MOST NOMINATED ARTIST IN HISTORY YET ONLY HAS 5 OF THEM; however screw the Grammy’s b/c MC has 200 plus awards… It’s all good.

Who’s mad and jealous? Just stating the obvious, if Taylor Swift hadn’t had the best selling album of the year with well high charting singles, do you think she’d still be nominated for Album and Record of the year just for her “talent and songwriting”? She’s cute and she is talented compared to the other poptarts out there now, but you could never put her up there with the likes of Alanis Morissette or Shania Twain.
If I Gotta Feeling hadn’t been number one for 14 weeks do you think it would have been nominated for Song and Record of the Year? Have you actually read the lyrics? “I got my money, let’s spend it up, go out and smash it, like oh my god” My mentally disabled cousin could have written better lyrics. Compare that with some past Song and Record of the Year nominees and please tell me it makes sense that they’re up there.
Beyonce is an absolutely phenomenal performer and there’s no denying her talent, but there’s also no denying that Single Ladies would have never been the hit it became had it not been for its music video and the infamous dance.
Lady Gaga? Take away the eccentric image and the crazy videos and what are you left with? Definitely not quality music, that’s for sure.
Lauryn Hill, Norah Jones, Michael Jackson, these were artists who very much deserved their Album of the Year Grammys, when back in the day they actually did give them out to deserving winners. Are you honestly gonna tell me that the people above deserve to be in the same category as them?
The point is it just seems like nowadays the Grammys are given out not for the actual music itself but for its commercial performance.

Beyone makes history with 6 wins in one night which is more than any female in Grammy history which brings her total Grammy count to 16 wins, just 2 away from tying Aretha Franklin. Wow. I wish Mariah could get at least 10 total Grammy’s.

I think beyonce is a good singer and performer… but mariah is better singer and I don’t think single ladies is a great song… It’s a popular song but not so great… well the good thing is that the dream produced all mariah last album… and he and other people won for the song single ladies.. maybe next year mariah and the dream will win…

“All the single ladies, all the single ladies, all the singles ladies…..” is this the Grammy NOW? Gone were the days when real artist and real music were honored (sans commercial success). Think of India.Arie, Norah Jones, U2, early Alicia Keys, MJB, Lauryn Hill etc. IMO,only Kings of Leon “Use Somebody” & Maxwell are grammy worthy. Grammy used to be the standard of what is called “music” but now no more!!

If you’re a fan of the BEP’s and Taylor Swift that’s fine, but you’re either a little delusional or just completely out of your mind to actually say that they deserve to be up there with the greats. I’m not bitter at all (well maybe just a bit) but I am realistic, I’m not saying every single person that won a grammy last night didn’t deserve it, with some categories I do think they got it right (Record of the year: Use Somebody, Pop Vocal Performance: Halo, Dance Recording: Poker Face) but in general it was one big joke. It’s all about the ratings, they know very well that without Beyonce or Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift on the show, no one would watch it, so that definitely plays a big part in the nominations. And it does seem a bit odd that Beyonce, however great she is, has 16 Grammys, while living legends like Mariah, Whitney, and Celine only have 5, or that Patti Labelle only has one, or that Diana Ross has zero.
P.S. Obsessed by no means is a lyrical masterpiece deserving Record of the Year, but it sure as hell beats I Gotta Feeling.

Mariah has earned more Grammy’s than those five, in her most successfull period (Music Box, Daydream and Butterfly) she has been widely ignored. No wonder Mariah doesn’t care that much about Grammy’s anymore and she’s right. Anyway, who knows what may happen next year with two Mariah albums and a bunch of singles including fantastic Angels Cry (and hopefully It’s A Wrap).

Beyonce has 16?! I can’t believe it. It goes to show that the Grammys are mostly about PR skills and contacts. Mariah was shunned in her most glorious days because the people in the industry hated Tommy Mottola. They did not know her well enough because she didn’t get to hang out etc – all she did was records after records. And her success stifled people – they wanted to make sure she didn’t get attention at these “professional” awards ceremonies as well.
That explains why Mariah (Hero) lost out to Sheryl Crow (All I Wanna Do) for Best Pop Vocal in 1994, and how One Sweet Day failed to nab the Record of the Year nor Best Pop Vocal Collaboration. And not forgetting We Belong Together. If that didn’t deserve a Record / Song of the Year, I don’t know what else would have.

Not to underscore your point but Mariah and Celine have 5, Whitney has 6, Patti LaBelle has 2 and Diana in fact doesn’t have a Grammy at all. I think the biggest crime of all is that Miss Ross has never won a Grammy. How can they even look themselves in the mirror of legitimacy on that one?

The Grammys have become a bad joke. I was hoping Katy Griffin would win one. I liked Pink’s performance.
… But this year should have been all about Memoirs if it had been released on time and had it been handeled better. But I really don’t care. I am happy with where Mariah is at now. The nicest thing is that she keeps getting good reviews about her singing live. I remember back in the E=MC2 era I felt nervous everytime she was going to sing live because I didn’t know how she was going to sound. Now I’m just like, “go girl!” and she hits every single effing note perfectly. Awesome.

No one’s bashing the other artistes. Rather, I think folks are angry at the Grammy’s for not paying Mariah the credit and respect that she deserves. And since you have named so many artistes – YES! Why have they neglected all these amazing women?! Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Patti, Diana!! Are they all not as worthy as Beyonce?! That is precisely my (and most other fans’) point.
Personally I like Beyonce. She’s on my second tier of favourite singers after Mariah, along the likes of Alicia, Whitney and Christina. But seeing her grabbing so many Grammys is just perplexing especially when compared to Mariah and Whitney!!

But like I said, the grammys have snubbed everyone from Micheal, to madonna and ect. But Look at their status in the Music Biz. A Grammy does not defined them.
The Grammys have always been unfair to many talented people and from 1996 on I can see the grammys have become a popularity contest and in part are about sales and whos the IT person of the moment.
and lastly WMA are better becuz they represent the worldwide, lest not forget it wasnt the grammys that named Mariah Artist of the Millenium lol, and also the AMA’s are mariahs fav awards becuz they are chosen by us the lambs and fans that love Mariah.

its not dat Beyonce is not good. we are all angry because Mariah is equally as good and has not received the praise and awards that Beyonce has.its just annoying.Beyonce is very over-rated and Mariah is very much under-rated for her song writing amongst other things.of course Mariah would love more Grammys.they are always mentioned and make the headlines. they are a big deal. winners always see a big increase in sales and it is very reputable to win them so it sucks that Mariah is repeatably snubbed.
