Review – Mariah Carey’s I Want To Know What Love Is
Sun, Nov 22, 2009
Before we start this review we just want to say that we’d quite like to slap Mariah Carey’s record company. Not only did they cancel the release of first single Obsessed, but they’ve hardly given Carey any promotion for her new album and pushed the release back weeks. Finally they are letting her release second single I Want To Know What Love Is, a cover of the popular Foreigner song.
I Want To Know What Love Is takes us back to the Mariah of old. In the past Carey has covered some real classics (Against All Odds, Without You to name a couple) so it’s no surprise that she is taking this Foreigner classic on. Adding a gospel twist to the song, Carey’s vocals are the strongest we’ve heard from her in some time. She starts off quietly before launching into the powerful belts and whistle notes that we love her for.
Is this Carey’s best cover? No. Is it likely to be a big hit in the UK? Probably not. Still it’s a good song. Unfortunately it looks like Carey’s record company don’t want her to succeed in the UK and we’re worried about how Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel will perform when it’s finally released.

Yes. They denied Mariah of a top ten single with Obsessed. They probably didn’t want Mariah to go anywhere near Madonna. Assholes. Freaking assholes!
But indeed, will IWTKWLI not do well..? I’m sad to know that.. I thought with all the promotion done, it should and would do well? No #1?

Fans should petition to IDJ and LA Reid. I think Mariah is getting unfairly treated. It reminds me of how Sony treated her towards the end of that contract. Mariah needs to leave that lame ass excuse for a record company and get back with the big boys. She should head back to Songy/BMG. As long as Tommy is not there, she will be fine. Any half decent record company would have paid for an advert during the x factor breaks to promote her record, but IDJ couldnt even be bothered to do that! Pure rubbish!

Stephen…I’ve been trying to get UKers to complain to Def Jam for the past year!
( anyone want to check out my ‘Obssessed Angel’ facebook group where I brought this up during the summer..)
HAVING JUST SEEN THE MC GOLD PACKEGE COLLECTION with her Def Jam albums, notice how the last space is reserved saying that the new album will ‘complete your collection’……..does this mean MOAIA is her last album for Def Jam?….Have they fallen out? Cos sometimes the record label doesn’t want to promote the artist if they’re closing their contact on unhappy terms
