Skin Carey: Mariah shares her beauty secrets

Mon, Feb 22, 2010

Ireland & UK News

Pop diva Mariah Carey ditched the make-up to star as a social worker in the Bafta and Oscar-nominated film Precious. But in real life she prefers a more glamorous look. Here the 39-year-old shares her top beauty tips and Sue gives advice on how you can make them work for you.

Q WHICH product have you been using for years that you wouldn’t be without?

A Neutrogena mild cleanser.

Q ARE there any natural treatments you use?

A Yes, I actually use olive oil in my hair.

Sue says: “What olive oil does for your body on the inside as a nutritional product, it does on the outside as a beauty aid. It’s the reason why so many Italian women have long, lustrous locks. Massage it into your scalp for a skin treatment or leave on the hair for a deep conditioning treat.”

Q WHAT is the best beauty tip a friend has ever given you?

A Milk and ice for redness on the face and puffiness under the eyes – it works wonders!

Sue says: “Milk is well known as a natural wonder moisturiser and ice makes the capillaries contract, taking reddening blood flow away. But choose full-fat milk for maximum benefits. Just whizz up cold milk and ice in the blender and mix into a face pack with two teaspoons of oatmeal and two teaspoons of china or white clay powder, available from health shops and from £3.40. Leave on for 20 minutes twice a week to help calm red skin. Or if you need a quick fix, dab milk under the eyes or on a breakout, then press an ice cube on the spot for a minute to lessen red skin.”

“Remember – you should test the mask on a small patch of skin before you use it for the first time.”

Q TELL me about your new fragrance, Forever, and the inspiration behind it?

A Forever is a beautiful floral fragrance that captures this wonderful time in my life where I am surrounded by all the things I love.Creating fragrances, especially Forever, has allowed me to express different parts of myself through scent and not just music.

Q WHAT tricks have you learned from make-up artists over the years?

A Too many to mention – I’ve worked with the best and the worst, but most people tell me they prefer how I do my own make-up.

Sue says: “If you need advice on what make-up will suit you, go for a professional consultation at a cosmetics counter.”

Q WHAT four make-up products would readers need to recreate your look?

A Tinted SPF 30 moisturiser, matte brown shadow, sheer lip gloss and baby pink blush.

Sue says: “Try Stila Oil free sheer tinted moisturiser SPF 30, at £11.70, and apply sparingly, blending well at the neckline like a normal foundation. Matte brown eye shadow is the make-up artist’s staple because it suits everyone. Gently sweep over the eyelid for a demure daytime look, or blend into the crease over a lighter colour for a more striking night-time style. Try Revlon Rich Sable, which costs £5. Kissable lips without heavy colour is the look for this season. Add a slick of Avon Care Sheer Lip Gloss with Jojoba Oil, at £1.95, for the prettiest pout in town. Baby pink blush gives a rosy flush to cheeks, although those with very dark skin tones should avoid it. Try L’Oreal Blusher in Silky Pink, priced £3.45.”

Q WHAT is your secret to great skin?

A Use a sun block with at least SPF 30 every day even in winter, get as much sleep as you can and drink gallons of water.

Sue says: “Sunblock is the beauty essential. Blend a pea-sized amount into your moisturiser and don’t forget to use it on your hands and cleavage as they can give away your age.”

Hi guys, MDJ once again posted the links where we can request UOMF. I just requested in all the stations. Its too early to give up. Its actually rising already on Rhythmic its #44 now while in Urban its still #27 so its actually doing good!!!

    2. Gmail Says:

Angels Cry will be available on iTunes tomorrow! DON’T Download it! Wait 4 THURSDAY to assure an entry on Billboard Hot 100 next week! ;)

    3. Marc Says:

If UOMF charts this week it will be her 42nd career entry on the Hot 100 and if AC charts that would become her 43rd.

    4. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

UOMF will surely chart this week but not that high maybe in the 80 – 90 range. Hope its higher tho’.

    5. jason Says:

Does anyone know if any POP stations are starting to spin UOMF?

    6. Egypt Says:

It didn’t go for POP radio yet:((

    7. ryan Says:

what a mess!! how annoying! :(

    8. Jeff Says:

W.E. IM OVER IT ALREADY, LET THEM SEND THE SINGLES TO POP RADIO NEXT YEAR.

IM JUST GONNA DO WHAT I ALWAYS DO AND TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT DOWNLOAD ANGELS CRY AND SUPPORT IT.

    9. brook Says:

I’m done with this era officially today. If IDJ and Mariah don’t give a damn, then why should I?

    10. Tobby Says:

I think Mariah gives a damn, that’s why you should too.

If she didn’t she definitly wouldn’t gone on tour… that time couldve been spent with Nick.

We get one last album and one last tour for what I can see to be quite a long time!

    11. Marc Says:

UOMF has rebounded a bit now to #109 and Obsessed is still getting downloaded at #292 and “100%” at 201.

    12. Dubai Says:

Marc, that’s because its rising on rythmic so more and more people must have heard the songs to download it. After all it has only been two weeks since its release on radio.Remember Obsessed reached its peak after about 3.5 months

    13. sami Says:

Aargh. It looks like BEP will have their third #1 single from the latest album as “Imma Be” is lodged in at #1 on iTunes. Amazing how they can churn out crap and the masses eat it up but if Mariah did that song no one would care.

    14. obsessed fan Says:

@sami I agree. BEP is crap. I used to like them before this era.

    15. jason Says:

      @Sami and Obsessed fan,

Have to agree. I feel your pain. With no disrespect to BEP, I just don’t get it. What a mockery to music to think that I Gotta Feeling spent 14 weeks at number 1. It’s lyrically a piece of garbage but unfortunately had a “catchy” sound.

    16. jason Says:

Speaking of “catchy”, there’s a song called UOMF. Wouldn’t it be nice if radio cleared the way for someone who has songwriting abilities? Oh, and not to mention that she also has the most amazing voice in the world. :) POP is starting to piss me off!!!

    17. obsessed fan Says:

@jason u’re right. play something decent for once! no more i gotta feeling or boom boom pow or imma be. play up out my face! or angels cry!

    18. MARIAH MALE FAN Says:

      I’m sick!!!

    19. jason Says:

I know in my heart that UOMF has a shot if they just play the damm song. I would love for UOMF to explode and for the “semi” lambs to get back in to Mariah sending AC up the charts as well. Than send 100% to radio. At this point, I would just love to see all the DJ’s who don’t like MC squirming b/c everyone is requesting her. That’s what they fear b/c they KNOW FOR A FACT that people come scrambling back to MIMI when she has a stone groove HIT.

    20. sami Says:

      Jason,

I feel you man but radio is scared of The Beatles being toppled. I really believe that is the issue, so a freeze out of MC on radio is their way to stop her dead in her tracks.

    21. jason Says:

      @sami,

How sad and how sexist. It really is a shame.

    22. sami Says:

      Jason,

I agree. I know people will think we are just having sour grapes but I honestly think this is what is going on because UOMF does fit with today’s radio, so for it to be almost shut out says something larger about motives at radio.
