The Diva Returns: Mariah album review
Sun, Apr 20, 2008
Written off after her Glitter-era breakdown, Mariah unleashed The Emancipation of Mimi on the world, and it turned into the comeback of all comebacks. Now she is faced with the difficult task of following that up, but if this album title is anything to go by, there’s a very specific formula…
As Ms Carey has publicly stated, if Emancipation… was the main course, this follow-up is the dessert. And the proof is in the pudding as this leaves you wanting more, long after the last mouthful. Lead single Touch My Body doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of its greatness.
I’m That Chick, a silky Motown sass-fest, is the standout track and there are no duff efforts. Migrate is a ghetto club grind with a lovely whistle beat, while the big ballad comes courtesy of Love Story, a weepy that hits us with That Voice. They just don’t make ‘em like Mimi!

Verdict: 5/5
